How many Vespa dealers actually have the the equipment to do spin balancing? My local Yamaha dealer use to do spin balancing of my GT200 tires but new management won't allow them to do so anymore. Other then the BMW Vespa Dealers I haven't seen one with a true spin balancer.

I'm interested in this as well. I can mount the tires but can't get them balanced as well as I would like.

The Eugene dealer sends them out to get balanced, too. I'm trying to find out.

Hey 666, do you need to lube the tire before mounting it? I never have on a bike, is it any dif for a scoot?

My independent mechanic wets the tire before mounting it, and also has a spin balance, but apparently can't tighten it down on the machine's shaft properly, so he spins it by hand, and it works fine. He said the Honda dealer has a computer spin balancing machine that would work, too, but told me that 12" tires aren't that sensitive to balancing as larger tires. Anyway, I have no issues with vibration, etc., with either of my new Michelin Sports SC tires.

I usually just spray some soapy water on it before mounting, the soapy water also helps set the bead.

Look at all the weights that are on the rim when you get a new scooter. They do need to spin ballanced. My front tire on My GTS need spin ballanced now. I deside not to use stock tires right off the bat and am using Pilot City

DIY (I'm so disapointed; I'm really shopping for one)

http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-wheels/balancer/

Stick on weights on eBay, get the smallest grams per unit you can find.

Your local CycleGear?

Maybe I'm just a picky bastard but I'm trying to get the smoothest ride possible and spin balancing seems to be the best way to get a tire accurately balanced. I'm talking to my Snap-On buddy about buying a spin balancer so that maybe I can help my friends out too.

The original Sava tires on the GTS will surely need balancing. They've never been good tires. Better brands won't need to be balanced as much. You can usually get away with not balancing a new conti or michelin tire.

ditto, i've had problems with the savas-- even on 10" wheels, and the stock pirelli's definetly need a balance. i haven't had any problems with the conti's, any of the michelin's or the pirelli SL26.

best,
