Hi

Last week I purchased a second-hand 2003 ET4, and am now trying to register the DataTag identity number, but to do this I need the engine number. According to the owner's manual it should be on a small plate at the back of the engine, near the back wheel. But there isn't one. The scooter has only had one previous owner who purchased it from a dealer. Does anyone know if there is somewhere else on the vespa that will have the engine number.

Many thanks

Wendy

The engine number is stamped just below the plug for the gear box oil fill. For the V.I.N. number you need to remove the Helmet bucket (Pet Warmer) under the seat and it should be stamped into the frame of the scoot.

the number is stamped into the engine/transmission casting itself.

on the left side of the scooter, kneel down and look from the back next to the wheel between the trans cover and the rim itself. right by the rear brake adjustment. there will be two sets of numbers, you want the ones that is between the "stars".

best,

Many thanks Tim and Greasy, I found the engine number after removing dirt and corrosion. Mind you, you need to be a contortionist to read it, and I also needed a torch to make out the numbers. I also found the chassis number.

Many thanks
