SB-600? Don't say on body. Rented an SB-900 for the day. I felt I needed more power than my SB-600 would have for daytime fill at a distance. I was ultimately glad I did.

That black Fuji Rabbit had a Ninja 250 motor in it, and was not only extremely well built, but also quite fast.
Turbo Metro was way cool.
I totally want a Valmobile Suitcase Scooter now.

What did that turbo Metro sound like? Unfortunately, it sounded faster than it ran. I think it needed a little more dialing in. Awesome concept though.
Turbos are quite difficult to tune. The fins on the turbines need to be the correct depth/angle/curve for the size of the motor. Compression and timing need to be changed. I can only assume that jetting would be difficult.

From a song....."And we all had a really good time, somebody told me I was out of my mind..."
What started out as a genuinely miserable day ended gloriously.
The rain stopped for the most part about the time we started running bikes and the track was dry by late morning. The sun even poked thru the clouds later in the day.
The course was quite challenging with a substantial uphill at the start really keeping the speeds down, which in retrospect was a good thing even if it lead to much frustration.
No-one ran fast, too potential. But the playing field was level though the track was not. A very challenging environment for racing. Still digesting what I learned.
Had the chance to catch up with some old friends, make some new ones.
VCLG members(six of us) made the 400-450 mile trip to the event and fielded 5 bikes, 3 of them brought by Patrick Owens. Patrick finished the day with the fastest vintage bike(the Unstealth) and scored the best top speed on Josh's Yamaha T max...90MPH.
I ran in the 300 class, finished second to the Motorsports kiddies who came prepared. Kudos to them, they were fast. Top speed for the Motorsport 300 was 82MPH. I only managed 78 in five runs.
Jess did great on his 200, he had the bike running well considering all the engineering/modification he had built in. Like EVERYONE else he did not run as fast as he thought he could. He had built a bike for the lakebed and found on race day he really needed a hill climber, he was not alone.
Not so clear on results in other classes(there were lots of them) but there were some very hard core riders/wrenchers...it was something to see.
To Alan Spears, Thank You!

Great pictures, Max. Really nice work.
Just to add to what glasseye said, there were many serious wrenchers at this event. It was refreshing to see. People came prepared for trackside modifications, with generators, air compressors, and tools by the bag full. The carbed bikes were trying different jetting, the CVT bikes were swapping rollers, and everyone was trying to squeeze as much out of their bikes as possible. The smaller bikes in particular were doing run after run, iterating through all the possible combinations.
Kudos to all the teams who came prepared to give it their all.

I just tried my nitrous kit on my GTS Super with great results for the first 3 seconds....then @#$#%^&*() Oh-Shit! seized the piston. I suspect when we machined the piston to fit the V4 Head it may have weakened it to handle the additional flow.

as years pass this event will grow and tracks will get better. Good job to all that Participated.
With that said, I sit here thinking about my P200, and having it built for next year. Greasy125 has it now and we still may have time to get it going.

You should - you can do better than the Ps there this year, it sounds like. Keep it in the 200 class and it will shine with some tuning

I weigh 230 at the moment but I think I could find me a rider @ 130-150 range thats what the small chopper company did and they made good timing.

http://www.coolscooters.biz/ I'd really like to see what's going on in that BlackJack if anyone has closeups!
Very glad that the event went well and that the road dried and weather improved so that conditions were better (and safer) later in the day.
I have a feeling we'll see some even more ambitious builds next year. Maybe the Buddy/GTS 250 Frankenscoot will be done by then.

But... I started wondering just what it would take to make my LX a viable competitor in the 2011 land speed trials. Eager to see results from this year. Of course, if Greasy mods his ET4 with all he and I have discussed, I'll just sit back and watch.

I don't think he was happy with his times didn't seem anyone was. the track was an up hill then midway it dropped to a down hill slope the scooters pulled just fine up hill but seemed to go limp after the hump.
As for the Salton Sea Rally I will be trailering since I plan to ride so I think I could hold 8 or so scooters on the trailer. your welcome to hitch a ride.

Unsure of what the plans are for getting out there, accommodations and so on. I suspect a fair number of people will be heading out to that! Those who want to ride from LA are looking at an overnighter. I think.
