I have a spare airbox cover that I can modify for you and include the plate.

Let me know if you are interested.
I'll take thirds if any extras available -- otherwise, I'll ship you a box cover so I can keep riding (daily).

I currently have six plates for sale, three have been requested but not yet paid for, one just sold. That leaves two plates at a minimum available.

The question is if there are enough future requests to justify going into a second production run. If not, there will be no more plates made. I need a minimum order of 20 plates to justify a production run.

If you are interested go to this survey site and complete the questionnaire. When there are enough requests I will go forward.

I tried to send you a PM but the message is sitting in the outbox folder so not sure if it was actually sent. I made the payment via PayPal and will ship you my airbox within the next week. I need the shipping address.

One thing I got in last week was two double sponge air filters from Scooterwest.
Double Red Sponge, 1414496, Malossi ....

I have used two prior to your air box Mod, always having a fresh one ready and changing them out about every 3k miles or before if having ridden on dusty roads.

For all you new MP3 riders, you can't go wrong in purchasing two of these dual sponge air filters. Sure makes your scoot run smoother.

The plate only is $20. With airbox mod $50 you pay shipping both ways. Since I have no more spare plates and only one for sale, I suggest you send me your cover and let me do the mod for you.

Hi guys. I'm new here. I'm reading stuff from this forum for long time and now I decided to join.
I want to do this mod but on my scarabeo 250ie but with one diference so I need your advice. Does anyone tried to cut this part of airpod (red on the picture)? if not, why?
Also, does any onyone have mesurements for this plate since I'm in Croatia so shipping cost from USA would be much more so I'm thinking to do it myself.
And one more question- any experience putting fuzzy washer on polini variator? I have one with 9rollers on my scarabeo 250ie.
Thanks

no need for a fuzzy washer with the vary you have.

no need to cut that opening as you already more than doubled the intake by opening up the other one.

Well this was the fastes reply that I got on any forum ever

As I followed discusion and everything, what was with that oil in airbox? Was it big problem after all or just a small bad side effect?

Yes - that is what I did for my airbox mod. I used a piece of PVC pipe so the airbox cover can seal against it with a piece of rubber or silicone goop.

I thought to do so in order to get better air flow. You think it has any sense?

It looks like yours is built different - on the 500 I needed the pipe so the outer half had something to seal on - yours appears to have a bridge. I'd say you're GTG.

I used a small 1 1/4 in hole cutter, and that fit perfectly in the area to cut out the original plastic . I did how ever get over zealous when trying to ground down the excess, so be careful. I used some painters tape to cover over the small hole my grinding created on the outside. Inside, I mixed up some epoxy to fill in the surface hole.

I can't wait to try this mod out

Thanks mine is installed and working great. I will say it took some work. I first used marine epoxy and it didn't hold. So I had to improvise lol.

Yeah I know that's my only issue I love it but I will check frequently. It should hold. I bought on ebay a new airbox so I have a backup. I used metal and melted it into the plastic all the way around then sealed it with gasket sealer. But still think it could come lose.

ponydrvr wrote:
Finally the airbox modification is ready to go. I have about 45 days of riding with it. It has been on KennyD's and now on LM15's MP3. He is the proud owner of the first airbox modification.

Essentially all that is done is to replace the restricted air inlet tube with a sheet of plastic that provides the isolation between unfiltered and filtered air. By enlarging the front plate inlet air restrictions are reduced. The net is an apparent performance improvement from a standing start all the way through the speed range. High speed cruising (70+) is easily accomplished with less throttle applied.

My initial observation with my 400 are that WOT speeds from a standing start gained 5-7 MPH in about 100 yds. The same with mid-range acceleration. I am currently riding without the modification and it is back to being somewhat sluggishin the mid-range and very little acceleration over 65 MPH.

I have the plates available for sale seperately or you can send me your airbox and I will modify it for you.

Right now the plates cost $30.00 each. This price will change depending on order size. The plastic is not the expense! It is the setup costs. The plates are cut on a CNC waterjet machine. The setup costs are somewhat variable but will be in the range of $200 per setup. I had eight peices made for the initial run and have three currently available.

If you want me to make the mod for you the cost will be $50.00 for the plate and the mod. I think I deserve something for my time since it takes about two to three hours to complete.

I don't know yet what shipping will cost but I will work that out yet this week.

One thing I do know is that this mod will work on all Master 4/500 cc engine CVT setups. So I guess that would include Piaggio's and the rest that use this engine/tranny combo.

Well, what do you guys think? Interested?
Do you still sell those plates?

That would be "Old as Dirt".

Also, there is a drawing and procedure out there somewhere.
I'll try to find it after work unless someone else does it first.
That'll be about 14 hours....

I would suggest setup a Search on Ebay for a Used Airbox.
That way you get an email when someone posts one.
You can use the Search "Piaggio Air Box BV MP3" and get a hit on a few.
None in the US Right now.

Modify that one, that way you can put your stock one back on if you need to.

sorry if asking Blonde question (am pretty new with MP3, bought my first at the end of March, its MP3 500ie Business 2016 model).

you (and others) mentioned that you use K&N filter. Is this filter flat version which simply replaces OEM filter and uses OEM air-filter-box? I have already Malossi flat filter in which replaced OEM.

Or is K&N one of those which completely replaces the filter and the box?

If later, do you know which P/N has that K&N filter that I could use? Is it easy to replace the OEM box? is there enough support for such K&N filter? what do you do with the oil vent tube?

is change to K&N giving noticeable change in ponnies and responsiveness?

has someone published this mod as thread?

thank you!

I have an 2012 re mp3 300ie tourer and am loving it.
After reading this thread from start to finish are starting to wonder if looking at a similar thing for my airbox could be on the cards?

The design of the 250 looks spot on to what mine looks like without taking it off yet

Any thoughts or have i missed a thread in the archives covering the yay or nay of my chances?

Cheers Eden

It is possible to completely remove the airbox and use a cone type filter instead. I have done this successfully on the 400 and run for a couple of years with good performance and fuel consumption. Here is what you need to do:-

1) Mount the new filter on a suitable extension from the original intake rubber. A plastic plumbing tube with a right angled or 45 degree bend works well.

2) Provide a housing for the cone filter to keep off the worst of the weather and to approximately match the restriction of the original housing so that fueling can stay within the self adjustment range of the injection maps. I used a steel/tin can modified from a food container. Some trial and error needed to get the engine running at its best.

3) Re-route the engine breather to an open pipe or a catch can using a large bore pipe with at least the initial run going upwards as much as possible.

4) Optionally make a deflector shield so that road dirt and spray can't escape on the left hand side of the wheel where the air filter housing normally fills the gap. The side of a plastic oil container works quite well and is easy to cut with tin snips or very strong scissors.

The MP3/250 and MP3/300 have the Quasar Engine.
We are talking about the Oil Blow with the MP3/500 which is a Master Engine.
I am sure you could modify the one on the MP3/250, I would advise to not fix something that is not Broke.
