I have to say that I had a great time with Blackbart in Durham at the Freeze Your Balls Off Rally.
Nice to meet many more scooter and motorcycle guys and gals, check out some sweet rides, good food and fun!

Here a link to some pics and vids.

If any of you were there, please shout out.

I really enjoyed the Brewery and it comes highly recommended.

The brain really does play tricks! I read it as flirt rally... Was wondering what it was all about!

Edit: topic was "just attended firt rally..." I think I would look really stupid without this explination... Well, still might look really stupid! Oh well...

Great pictures btw! Will have to look at them on a bigger screen...

I really wanted to go but since I'm saving my pennies for Cannonball I decided not to spend the money. Once I saw the cold turn the weather was taking I was sort of glad that I hadn't committed to going. It's good to hear that you enjoyed it. I see some of the Richmond folks in the pics. Good on you for braving the cold.

Congrats David
Hey! You won a prize, well done. Your scoot looks sweet. It looks like you do not have any mirrors ! How do you manage in traffic?
I'm happy for you that you made it to your first rally, shame I couldn't make it, we could have lost our virginity together. See you on the Parkway someday.
All the best.
Sir Paul.

It may be hard to tell but we fashioned a mirror on the left side of the leg shield.(It's not in my avatar picture)
Actually a bike mirror!
It does get knocked out of alignment often, though, with any knee or leg too close.
But it usually does pretty good.

Mirrors
Hi David,
Mine has the original mirror that came with it in '67. I was thinking of adding a couple of mirrors, but, as you have discovered, the easiest ones to find seem to be of the bicycle variety. I have discovered a couple of older motorbike repair shops in the Johnson City Tenn area, and they are looking through their back rooms for some older mirrors and fittings. I do not really want new rectangular mirrors with black fittings and plastic on them.
If these guys turn up more than a couple of older mirrors I will make the extras available to you, if you are interested.

Sir Paul

Yes, please keep me in mind for the mirrors.
In this picture you can see the one I use on the leg shield.
I'm enjoying a nice stout while talking to the guy who sold Vespie to me in boxes.
He was impressed!

That guy is...
Chris32 of the http://incriminators.com/
He's a very knowledgeable and nice guy of the few times we've met and talked.

And yes, there were a handful of moderns there, they just didn't get into the pictures.
A popular choice was the Stella, including the notorious Rustella.

A few Buddy scoots, and some others I'm sorry to say I'm not familiar with, but they were nice, and nice riders.

Starr may know more about the local crew

Yea, a few spouses & S.O.s I believe, as well as a few singles girls on their scooters. In fact the President of the local club is a very cool female, too.
And given a choice of people I'd ask to bail me out of scooter trouble, my first choice is Blackbart, and now that I know her: Starr.
She's awesome.
Being a married man, I didn't get any phone numbers, there for the beer and scooters.

It seems as though my last comment on the FYBO Rally passed over at least one head.

I am now at the age that the equipment in question, that I still possess, is not entirely in the literal sense. As it relates to scooter riding, my wife has caught up and may soon pass me in the not-so-literal interpretation. To quote a great philosopher, " A man's got to know his limitations". I saw some females probably better equipped than me at FYBO. That's a compliment.

David spent a lot of time and effort on his scooter since obtaining that pile of parts, and it shows. Built in an area with NO local scene. It looked like it does now when I met him. Congratulations!

p.s. He may be younger and better looking, but at least I got a prophylactic in my Rally bag.

Thanks B. Bart.
And look out everyone, that one flew over my head.
Sorry Richard, I wasn't thinking on the same lines.
For the ladies, It was freeze your buns off.

I fixed the link with the pictures, are you seeing them now Bart? (Yes, they knew you were a stud when they saw you approaching.)

Chris brewed that stout. My buns were toasty, it was the bumps on my chest that were the problem.

Nice bike
Nice bike David, you did a great job of turning a box of bits into a bike. She looks really good, I would have been ashamed to park next to you.
That is a brill looking trophy too, quite amusing.
