Yes folks, it's time once again for the Greatest Scooter Spectator Sport on Earth. In this thread you will find Action! Drama! Mystery! Adventure! and probably a whole bunch of broken scooters.

The ride officially begins on Sunday, April 22nd. I'm starting this thread now so that some of the participants will have a chance to get an email token to put in their phones / tablets / computers / mainframes.

Cannonball Participants:
Just click the @ sign in the upper-right-hand corner of this thread, and you'll receive a customized email address. Anything sent to that address (including photos) will be posted in your name.

I'm also going to turn on the map for this thread, so any photos with GPS locations in them will be placed on a map. Try not to send any photos from any location you don't want pinpointed on the map.

You can also direct your SPOT! Messenger email notifications to this thread, and those points will also be identified on the map. This will give all the folks back home a chance to follow our progress along the way.

Let the games begin!

Well this is certainly official business. I forgot to put Bill's top case in the crate so I just paid $102.00 to have it there by Tuesday.

Bill and Rick it is a bit of a custom job, Drew made a GT work for a GTS, pm me if you can't figure it out.

Dude, if no one told you yet today I will. You are awesome! If I don't see you in a few weeks I know my GT will. I can't wait to hit the road in a few days...

Ouch. You're a good man, David. Without it I'm afraid Bill would be trying to plaster his stickers all over my bike.

I took it down the road to fill the tank earlier. It was very smooth, no front end shimmy at all, and the speedo was the closest to accurate that I've seen yet - only off by 4-5 mph when going 65.

Missile Launch
We can't figure it out David even though it hasn't arrived yet.

I'm very glad that it's a hatchet job because it's going to have so much adhesive stuck to it. It may not ever open again.

I've run out of nice things to say about you and the VSO Crue.

Crue spent that way just to be ironic.

Smack Talk
I will open with a little smack talk. So many of the Cannonball trophies have gone to a residents of California that the trophy should be named the "California Trophy" I predict this year will be no different.

It's started for us...
Made it to Virginia! We're now just 'ordinary tourists' until the scoots arrive. Just 15 miles from DC in a lovely neighbourhood, staying with Kristin's Aunt and Uncle, with DougA (shokenmaster on the CB pages) in tow - his brother will pick him up this morning.

p.s. Good to see SPOT is working AOK.

I was just thinking of you. I'm checking out my alternatives for getting to and from Dulles on Tuesday and was looking at your town on the map. Nice spot indeed.

Auxiliary tank
Heya,

Testing the email updates with a photo of my auxiliary tank, hidden in my
cargo box. That suicide bomber button is the on/off switch for the pump.
It'll be velcro'd up by my left grip. There's a 3 gallon tank in the
storage box. I'm using a pump so I don't have to reach behind me to throw
the shutoff while I'm riding. If the pump fails for some reason, I can
still switch to gravity feed. I'd just have to stop to throw the shutoff.

Hojo

I'm using Verizon with my iPhone and when I send a photo in an email it doesn't add anything to it.

I suspect the folks reading this thread aren't going to mind those few lines of extraneous crap when you're sending photos of motel shenanigans or gorgeous views of Arizona canyons.

He is using a txt MSG to email address function.

There is probably a setting on vzwireless.com to change that. Where that setting is hiding is beyond me. I haven't had Verizon in 6 years it feels like.

You crazy Cannonballers... I'm envious. Jess - thanks for setting up this thread. There will be many of us watching (drooling?) as the group progresses across the country.

Be safe everyone. Have an epic time! Can't wait to see it all unfold.
