I thought about Stacey today and what a privilege it was to ride with such a lovely character.

Does anyone have any news on how his other half is ?

she seems to be hanging in there. we are all thinking of her. <3

Does anyone remember this -

Year I'm still trying to get my head around it.

I still regret that we didn't turn around and stop for a moment to get a photo. It was one of the funniest, weirdest things on the entire trip.

Six months ago almost to the moment we were hopping on our scooters to hit the road.

I'd like to meet the guy who painted it up there or hear the conversation on the phone from the client.

You want it to say what ?

I wonder if it's on Google Maps ?

Can't believe it has been six months.

This one was pretty funny also.

You're right. This is all a fascist plot, perpetrated by a secret cabal whose real motivation is to boost sales of used scooters.

Sorry, Jess? I thought was advocating that those not interested in following the rules should stop commenting on the rules and ignore activities in which they can't be involved. I didn't comment on the rules, only that rules, per se, must discriminate. There's no fascisti, only Vespisti, just now in more selective sub-groups. It's cool, freedom of association is legit and all. Party on without us.

There were several "warnings", like JimC not putting his foot on the ground at a stop sign in Texas.
But, I think I was the only one to be honored with a ticket $$$. Speeding in Jerome, AZ and I was guilty; 45 in 20. Great chief of police awarded me a no points citation. While I was distracting the law the rest of the riders came zooming by. Those that were not lost and missed Jerome altogether.

Jerome was amazing wasn't it.

I'm guessing we were lucky then but I do remember Rick waning me to slow down several times while entering towns.

Any others get a ticking off ?

No other riders that I know of - I mean, it wasn't a race or anything. I think Doug got three tickets in Jess's truck.

Aw shucks.... but it was only two tickets, one in Mississippi and one in New Mexico.

57 in a 40, I was behind Patrick on his Sym HD200 (he thought the lights were for him) and the next time 96 in a 60 I think (with a trailer on the back).

Bill Dog asked this one on my behalf. I am tying to find out if riding at or near full throttle all of the time will get me thrown in the pokey.

It looks like the law either didn't notice or chose to ignore the excessive speed of the riders last year. Either that or it is like our country roads around North Florida where the police simply don't patrol.

I always ride 5 to 10 mph over the posted limit now, but slow down to close to the posted limit in towns. To finish in a decent place in the SCR, I will need to up my game a little. My max speed is currently 73. I can probably get to 75 with new belt, rollers and rear tire. The speed limit on most of these roads is probably 55 to 65 mph. I should be fine.

I'm wondering if you would get the most overall performance upgrade with suspension mods like new, higher grade shocks, fer instance.

Of course you freshen up the standard wear parts for the long high speed run.

In that case you may want to know that I got a ticket for 70mph in one of the Texas towns the cannonball went through when rode up from Houston for the BBQ with the cannonball riders in Abilene. So be careful going through towns.

FM roads in Texas often have 70mph and some 75mph speed limits. In my case the sign dropping the speed limit was hidden behind a tree canopy and the cop was waiting at the bottom on the hill immediately after the sign dropping it to 55.

Colorado 9 has some 70mph sections on it as do a some Wyoming roads. Most of the cannonball route goes through states with 75mph max speeds http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_limits_in_the_United_States

I rode through parts of Colorado, Wyoming and Montana last year on a rental bike. My friend and I ran 80 most of the time with a posted speed limit of, I believe, 65. Up to 90 at times. I don't think we saw more than five police cars the entire ride but were cautioned by people we met along the way to be careful of our speeds.

I have found that the towns are where you are most vulnerable to getting ticketed for speed. Although I want to finish well, I will continue to be careful in them.

We were on a few of the roads we will be traveling on in the Cannonball. They were great.

I'll lock it for now, and remove it to the Thread Graveyard if it gets more spam (as other threads have done) - the email tokens get around the lock.

All those who keep their address books 'in the cloud' - and that means anyone who uses web-mail <spit> - are vulnerable to having their address books compromised. Yahoo! users are the favourite target, but hotmail and ATT folk aren't far behind.

Locking.
