Is the body SN located anywhere else but behind the top of the "carb" door?

On the VS5 I just bought, the paint is so pretty at that location it is a shame to buff a slot.

The VIN# on my VS5 is on the frame lip just under the glovebox cowl. I think they moved it here with this version.

On my VS5 (early) the VIN is written on the carb door, not on the frame under the glovebox cowl.

IIRC the they changed the VIN location for VS5s mid-series, so early will have it behind the "carb door", later will have it under the glovebox cowl.

Around late 60' they moved the numbers from the door frame to under the G.Box cowl on the frame. Photos are of the GS I just finished.

Hi,

Really old topic but hope someone is able to help me;-)

Just bought a GS 150 (VS5) which has been standing still for 52 years but I can't find the framenumber anywhere (not even a single letter or anyrhing.

I have only seen VS5 where the framenumber is behind the carb door. I have the first original papers from the scoot and this documents says: framenumber under the glovebox. Happy that you guys confirmed this that VS5 switched the location of the framenumber during production.
I attached 3 pictures :
-1 from behind the carb door
- 1 under the glovebox
- 1 from under the glovebox where the IGM number is cleary visible.

Had GL's before where the number was almost completely gone under the glovebox because of rust and mud in the years of the sparewheel but it seems strange to me that the IGM number is in perfect shape and then the framenumber will completely be gone? Do you guys knows VS5 where the framenumber was on a different location? Even checked the engine side (location of large after '65) but nothing.

Best,
Peter

Look on the backside of frame under the IGN number. Should have the stamp impression of the numbers. Prob can use some paper with black chalk/mark to get a better impressions of numbers.

Try other locations behind the frame near the carb door, too if not in the back of scooter.

If not under those location could be replacement frame.
