Well, guess who has Gone Vintage? Almost.

I went to Scoot Richmond yesterday and came home with a 1981 V5B3T Vespa 50 Special. It has been Malossified to 136cc. The test ride was sweet. Lots of giddyup. I have to get used to the foot brake. My GTS doesn't have one but my Sportique back in the '60s did.

I just got back from a quick spin around the block. That little thing handles nice. A bit of a wheelie in first gear. I am so looking forward to my first rally with it.

Question: It has a tendency to slip out of fourth. Is that rider error?

I thought I might be hanging on to the grip too tight as I have not grown accustomed to the difference between it and my GTS.

That's a really nice bike. Someone must have done a LOT of work on it as I didn't think the 50cc could be taken all the way to 136cc. Maybe they started with 90cc in the first place. It also seems to have the semi-dropped handlebar of the SS90 (perhaps the 50 Special came with those bars as standard - someone'll know).

Whatever, it looks sweet

Popping out of 4th sounds like a worn cruciform to me. Good looking scoot. Congrats on the purchase.

- if the twist grip selector (up at the headset) is not lined up right then the inner gear wheel can touch things = pop out of 4th

if adjusting the gear cables (under engine) doesn't help this issue than it could be another issue:
- make sure the two gear cables are not too tight and "fighting" each other = there should be a slight amount of wiggle with the left hand before either cable is under tension.

nice ride...!!

get one of these asap:

one stayed on and lit the plate and was at the same time a running light

the other was for braking
