I've enjoyed following the Scooter Cannonball Run in previous years. This year I'm riding in it and want to know how to post updates here.

One truckload of 5 scooters just headed north from Nor Cal yesterday; mine, Maroy, Eric A, Teacherquinn,, and Dave B (feb31st).

We'll be be reuniting with them in Prince George on 5/31.

The Cannonball leaves from Hyder, AK on June 3, and arrives in !New Orleans on June 12.

I have no clue what will happen in-between!!

In years past Jess/MV created the Official Thread, I forget if it was sticky or not but it was nice. Shameless edit. http://www.followride.com is slowly adding more Cannonball Riders... and tweaking. Like 2012, I am happy to share the check-in JSON stream with MV if they want to incorporate into the map.

I'm riding 2009 GTS, red (THE fastest color), with an aux gas tank, so 5.3~ gal on board. I'm a newby to GPS, so will be relying on Matt (4n6iscool) or Mark (Maroy) to get me there!!

I just checked in on followride.com, #29. Rider photo is view from my bedroom window, which I will miss!!

GT200's, like mine, are a good option. To be competitive, hey must be very well prepared with auxiliary tank and lots of speed with a rider who gets the mission. I am approaching it with a plan of a separate spare tank, thorough preparation, good GPS skills and a willingness to ride quickly all day.

I am looking forward to posting about my experiences, along with reading what the other riders have to say and the responses of those following.

It is the adventure of a lifetime for many of us.

My ride, the rocket ship.

Strapped to the hated trailer. We prefer to ride.

I'll give you the same sage advice I am sharing with all my co-competitors. You need to carry about 4 80lb bags of cement to fill in any impassible potholes you encounter. And at night, especially in Canada and the Rockies, you should store all your open containers of food like honey, jelly and candy bars under the seat, so nobody steals it.

I could probably carry these bags with the super firm new shocks you sent to me. I am quite certain that it wouldn't bottom out even on the biggest bumps at any speed.

Wait until you hit some hard fast corners. They are phenomenal. I'm bringing my official Malossi shock adjusting tool, and you can rent it for a very nominal fee, which will of course vary depending on how close we are to anyone else who might have one.

I got some Under Armour Man Spanx yesterday. They raised my voice a couple octaves and remind me of a scene in the movie Barcelona where one of the characters is telling a girl about his cousins penchant for wet leather undergarments because they tighten as they dry. They're going to take some getting used to.
Right now I'm going through my wardrobe with the "half the clothes, twice the money," travel adage in mind and trying to decide between bringing my English Plimsoles or Aqua Shoes for something to wear at the end of the day when the boots come off.
Tomorrow I drop the hounds off with their babysitter, Wednesday I head to Tennessee and then it's North To Alaska.

I'm on my way. Today has been exciting and I am very glad I wasn't riding in today's weather. Hit high winds and torrential downpours to the point where visibility was less than 60 feet. While we were in that mess saw a collapsed portico on the front of what used to be a gas station now some other business but couldn't tell what because of all the emergency vehicles. Somewhere in the mess the right windshield bracket lost its connector despite having Loctite on it and the left side was twisted so that the windshield was in front of the glovebox. So I'll have a call into AF1 tomorrow to see if by chance they have replacement bracket to reinstall the windshield that was undamaged or alternatively if they have either of the two smaller ones in stock they can overnight so it will arrive with the tire on Weds.

Something hit the left trailer tail light and smashed it with the second bout of high winds and downpour. This time at least the visibility was better even if lightening was closer. So its a good thing our hotel tonight is right next to Wal-Mart so we can replace that light before we get a ticket.

On the plus side, the scoot has stayed very stable on the trailer which handled the weather and road conditions extremely well. Found the missing GPS so I have a spare now.

Heading out with windshield

The FollowRide site is live. Some of the tags have already started migrating north. Each rider location is modified each time they check in. Yano's last check in was in San Diego.

We could ask Jess to add the map feature to this thread - but my past experience showed this can be a 'World Wide Wait' feature. Best to add:

So which one is the final check point for you:

Abita or TTPR? In other words will you be hanging out and relaxing at Abita?

We will hang out for a short time at Abita before parading in as a group to the scooter shop. All participates sill need to finish that last leg to score the points.
