Tonight is Thursday so it's How To Get Away With Murder. Really good for network TV. Moves quickly and the flashbacks keep me on my toes so I can't passively watch like so much of network TV. Fargo has positive reviews. Maybe I'll have to look at it more closely. Engrenages? I'll look into it, also. Winter gas arrived. Time to catch up on Film and TV, sadly.

I tried Fargo when it first aired and stalled out quickly but got back to it last month and binge watched season one. Definitely worth your time.

Not a TV person in general (long, boring story), but Significant Other watches streaming stuff, so I have to occasionally oblige her. Here's what's happened so far:

- Inspector Morse: Loved what little I watched of in in the past, I loved; recently finished the entire series with her, but also caught the first season of the "prequel" Endeavor, which is fantastic IMO. Will start Inspector Lewis at some point. The Brits simply do police procedurals better than we (US) do.

- The Rockford Files: There, I said it. The last mainstream TV series I guiltily enjoyed before swearing off the tube for some near-thirty years, but somehow picked back up on just after James Garner's death last year. Loved Garner's laconic (as opposed to "laid-back") delivery, along with the fact that he did most of his own stunt driving in the series.

- The Big Bang Theory: If I really have to explain this...

Oh, yes, me and the missus have trimmed our shows down to BBT, Elementary, her home rebuilding shows and my hotrod rebuild shows. Spending more time reading books on the Kindle. Oh, by the way we're both old farts and could care less about TV anymore.

When Bullseye is not on...

I'm making my way through The Sopranos. I'd never seen it before and I'm enjoying it a lot. Am only up to season two so far. Everyone knows that it's great TV with quality writing and drama, but there's lots of humour in it too. Each episode usually has a couple of laugh out loud zingers.

True Detective season two. I'm up to show 6 of 8. I like the tone of this show and I like how the exposition is buried deep in the narrative. It doesn't hold your hand and lead you through the plot and treat you like an idiot. Great photography and direction. The first series was class too.

I haven't been able to watch programs on the TV in years. My kids took it over and between video games and their viewing selections I've resorted to YouTube and Netflix. I've been watching a flintlock muzzleloader build the past few nights on YouTube and finished Season 5 of The Walking Dead on Netflix.

Saw a Noah Baumbach film yesterday. I liked it. It appears the critics likes it more than the audience and I don't know why. Maybe because so many movie goers are millennials and it's a film about aging Gen X'ers?

Forest man a Short Documentary. An Indian man has been planting a forest on a waste land in India for 40 years or so. The forest is now larger than central park. Kind of uplifting all things considering.

I saw "while we're young" and was equally impressed.

There was also a small book written in the 1950's called "The man who planted trees". It's nice to see an uplifting work of fiction become reality.

Prime has all the HBO series. Six Feet Under, The Sopranos, The Wire and Oz are all fantastic. Even if you've watched them before they are fun to revisit.

Linda and I are re-watching the Harry Potter Movies. Through 5 (Dolores Umbridge!) and the series keeps getting more serious. Such a wonderful and inspiring series (of books); so relevant to the events of the day, both when written and now. Beware the dementors and the fear-mongerors.

Another Baumbach film that was under-appreciated was Greenberg. I'd check that out, also. But, if you haven't seen The Squid and the Whale you should. What a cast. Jeff Daniels nails the past his prime writer/professor, pompous, delusional prick of a man and his wife played by Laura Linney coping with a marriage falling apart. Her performance was incredible.

Re-watched mystic river last night on Netflix. A powerful film, indeed.

M he's that way in real life. Not a genius (might be tho) but strange, He lives in a hobbit house and collects kimonos. Casting did a great job with getting the right actors for the parts. Everyone is spot on

I spent a several days in the Scottish Hebrides this Summer, when I got home I discovered a mystery series on PBS (naturally) that neatly evoked those islands; 'Shetland'
