Hi I just got a 2010 MP3 250. A few questions:

- How is the tilt unlock supposed to work? Mine only unlocks if you push the button twice. And it won't accelerate at all until you do that. The seller claimed this was normal, but after reading the manual I don't think so. What is it supposed to do?

- Any clue where the problem might be? It locks fine, rolling to a stop. IIRC it beeps once when locking, and twice when unlocking with two pushes. A beeper, not the horn.

Maybe a case of a worn out switch???

From your description, it sounds like the system is working as it should other than needing to hit the unlock switch twice.

Exactly that. There is a safety switch in the seat. Once you're sitting it's a single click to unlock, or revving the engine will unlock.

there are two switches related to the seat. the first one allows light under the seat to come on. you can test that switch with you finger with seat up. the second switch is a pressure switch that is inside the stuffing of the seat. this switch is tied to ecu. seat switch can be eliminated by using resistors. my memory not that great when I dont wright stuff down. but I think it measured 1300 ohms. I pretty sure I tried 650 1000 and 1300, and all worked as needed. there are two red dash lights for these. seat up far right red light stays on. no pressure on seat . red tilt light will be flashing.

the bike should unlock automatically with throttle. but you would need to be sitting on seat.

I only noticed this when bike was on center stand. wouldnt unlock with throttle until you were on seat. I never tried unlocking with switch manually. the two push on switch may be normal if seat switch was not satisfied in ecu.

Thanks for the advice!

Looks like the wires to the seat pressure switch are cut. I'll either re-connect them or put a 3k resistor in there, since that is what the shop manual says it should read when rider is seated.

I'll check the dash lights as you say.

Update: I put a 3k resistor where the seat sensor was. Looks like the DPO (dreaded previous owner) had cut these wires for some unknown reason.

But it still acts the same. I need two pulls on the toggle to get it to unlock. And it won't accelerate until after it is unlocked.

Since I'm planning on hacking the tilt system anyway, I will not try to troubleshoot the original controls anymore. There's a separate thread on that if you are interested.
