Thanks! I've been accumulating stuff over the last ten years or so, now that I have an actual workshop in my backyard.

Jess - just wow. what kinda joinery is that with the oval giant shaped biscuits? how did you cut the reciprocal slots?
Let me introduce you to the extremely controversial Festool Domino. The joint it makes is technically called a "loose tenon", though it is conceptually similar to a biscuit cutter.

It is controversial because, like most of Festool's offerings, it is outrageously expensive. There's nothing else on the market quite like it, though, which is Festool's stock in trade.

It comes in two sizes -- mine is the smaller DF500, which cuts 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, and 10mm mortise holes (at varying depths).

It's a great tool for furniture building.
no lies. it's kinda like how snap-on gets all the hate on certain forums. look, festool is crazy money but it flat ass works, and it works right and it lasts.

that good money only spends once. the bad money spends a bunch of times. buy the best and you'll be satisfied, if not you can return it.

professional tools=professional results. and even festool can make a dumbass mechanic like me look like a pro wood worker.

so, missus greasy has been battle royale with her ikea desk bullshittery for ages. thus, it was decided that i was to be tasked with building a new one for her.

*le sigh*

after her finally deciding on a shape and configuration i was put to work.

to note: there is an additional side table that accompanies in matching decor so it's a two piece corner desk that houses the monitors and laptop(s).

also to note: her schematic was not to size... but that's a private argument held in the kitchen amongst two adults that think they are absolutely right in every single way and with a whole bunch of red wine.

but i digress... the legs are sawhorses and a ikea combo that are adjustable. top is 3/4" white maple veneer ply with double backbone struts, edged with 1.5" mahogany jointed and glued, then i laid down the paint on the perimeter.

hopefully i won't have to make another!

but here's the printer table! which will soon become my table for holding tortillas and like, booze maybe?

it started as this piece of cast off:

then i had my "assistant" boss out on it:

yah, shop is a mess.

then, *snaps fingers* this:

softened the corners and threw a linseed oil rub on it.

and yeah, that's a festool sander.

ha! thanks man! it straight up was borne of trash. due to the war department grousing about i had to pull something out on the quick. however, i turned it around and roped her in on it. (insert evil laughter here)

i can't remember where the top came from, it was a cut off from something or other from some rando project and was straight up next to the trash. like, it hadn't been tossed yet because i'm a lazy ass and didn't yet get around to cutting it down to fit in the bin. the legs were recycled from a trash ass ikea desk top thing that have been rolling around under my work bench for ages. the rest was a few beers between us, some sanding and just elbow grease.

the "new" side table is much much more refined, with a lower shelf for the printer and a built in clamp for the go-pro (for the meetings), but i tripped it up, shoulda knocked some casters on it from the jump.

but yeah, all of the special tools! we are enablers....

Funny that "someone" from Houston seam s to have sent in some beers.
When I first joined the forum (announcing I wanted a side car and custom build) - greasy responded with: Have you ever even ridden anything motorized with 2 wheels?
Harsh but eminently fair.
He then followed on with some how to resurrect a scoot that has been parked for a decade in a warehouse advice.

Wanting to repay the good will, I bought a 12 pack of long neck Pacifico's, loaded them in the sidecar, and drove to where the internet said he had a shop in N. Hollywood.
Couldn't figure out how to enter or knock from either front or back - gave up - and rode home on all 5HP of my bodge.

This photo justifies my read tho:

Under cross examination: There may or may not be a girl in the back seat with bare feet. There is a possibility that we may or may not be near Amarillo, on a four lane.

For the record, this would be a full sized dodge or Chrysler product. Possibly a 67 fury III, she may or may not have dyed hair and tattoos, there's possibly some fake passports and a quart of gin. but who's to say.

Allegedly.

Purportedly.

It's all conjecture your honor.

Tinkering in a much nicer garage now.
Garage/Man loft.

The original garage with the roof trusses I made in preparation.

Old roof off.

Preparation for the new one.

Start putting the trusses on.

Getting late at this point and my help had gone home. I was knackered.

Start with the boards.

Finish with the boards.

Day2, I could hardly move but membrane wrap.

Roofing battons

Bitumen corrugated roof panels.

Inside.

More membrane.

Cladding.

loft before.

loft after.

Loft quickly after that.

Paint and verge fitting.

Clad the internal walls.

Bring the scoots into their new dry home.

Start on the mezzanine.

And more
Its looking good.

Still two thirds 1 3 third gararge door to make and lots of other little bits. Guttering and fall pipes to install also.

Ladders and floor installed.

Even a chair and bench.

A beer fridge has crept in.

Stud walls with doors.

Paneled and made a little homely.

Storage to the left.

Check out the gable decor.

New tinkering machine arrived today. Need to do some significant rearrangement to the garage before putting it to use.

OCT- thats a killer machine.
Very nice!
Am in the middle of trying to get this old girl fully functional as well.
Have been a fan of putting everything on wheels.
These have been combo right price/good quality - if interested: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RP286W2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Found it nice to be able to move things around when needed.

Nice monarch!

the 10EE and HLV-H both started on my short list, but the more I looked the more I realized that cutting metric threads without having to swap out a bunch of gears was a must.

I can't do wheels in my garage as there is very little of it that is flat.

Thanks!
Looks like you landed on your feet. Very firmly...
Your machine also looks in really nice shape. Nice find.
Just imagining what it took to get it in the garage!
Don't you live in town?

I was seduced by seeing a restored 10EE (picture below of the one that bit me).
Plan to use taps/dies on the lathe rather than change gears - but I'll see how that plays.
It's seen some use but still runs true and tight.
At some point - will be tempted to make it pretty like this one

So when I'm unsure of where to go for a tootle on the scoot, I look up and the decision is made. Me and the Boy are happy with our couple of days in the garage and the results, although he did want it to be an X wing fighter.
