About the only thing left to tinker with on my scooter (jinx!) is the nonfunctioning column lock. The glove box key turns it about 1/8 just like it does for the glove box but nothing happens to engage a lock. I'm trying to figure out off I have a bad locking mechanism, wrong key, or both. My only point of reference is an older scooter where my column lock turns 180 degrees.

How can I verify the integrity of the locking mechanism versus the lock/key insert? I'm inclined to just rekey the column and glovebox, but if the issue is the underlying mechanism that's a useless approach.

If your key works enough to unlock it, try pulling the lock out so you can pull the lock body out and check to see if any internals are damaged.

Yeah - I immediately felt stupid after posting that and spent a few minutes messing with it. Works perfectly now. I was snookered by the prior owner also having issues, but I guess he (and I) didn't try enough LOL. Definitely different from old ones but effective.

I have a similar question. I have an old lock but no key. I know that I can drill out the old one but should I be able to just pull it out? I haven't been able to but I haven't hit it with WD-40 or penetrating oil.

I'd like to avoid drilling it out if possible so does anyone have any thoughts?

That sounds right. You turn it just a bit and push it in. And the headset needs to be facing left so it lines up.

You have to drill it out, but itís easy. You drill in the center of the key part until the pins fall out, then turn the lock with a screwdriver. The lock needs to turn to remove it.
