Modern Vespa

I picked this up las October. Have the title. Has not been started in a few years. Its a 2005. Horncast and plastic around instrument is broken. Seat is fubar. But I have new or good condition parts to replace all three.

One area of rust that is concerning near the brake pedal underside. Otherwise just a little surface rust.

Eh... That's not a project unless you want to make it one... The yolk I'm on is in far worded condition but again, not a project... Just a bike that needs to be maintained...

If you want to turn it into something more than it is, then it becomes a project... Enjoy it!

So the question is what should I do with it?

1. Leave it as it is and sell it to a needy scooterist to get it running themselves (great way to get into the hobby and get some skills).
2. Get it running and sell it to a needy scooterist that doesn't have tools.
3. Do a full service/soft restore. Pull tank, new lines, new petcock, treat rust, remove carb, new rubber, etc. and sell it for a little more?
4. Do three and keep it? God knows one person has to have more than six scooters! Wouldn't keep it unless I did three but three can come in a year or so as well (actually I don't have space to keep them all).

Anybody need it?

If you don't have room for it, and I see you already have another Stella(or is the same one listed on your profile) then just do the minimum work to get it running safely and pass it onto a needy newbie for a decent price.

Not sure what you spent on it, but there are plenty of people who would jump on it for 12-1500 running. And you'd be their hero for selling it for a decent price! Plus you wouldn't be sitting on it forever at 2500 line everyone else selling a Stella.

Couldn't cost more than 200 to get it in decent running shape including a cheap seat!

#2 graduating into #3 if it doesn't move quick. It's a good way to help somebody new get into these things, the season is upon us, good bikes seem scarce most places and prices are climbing...

I assume you got a killer deal or you wouldn't have caved in - I know how that goes... Other than a few fixable niggles(rubber bits and elec gremlins), Stellas are damn good bikes! The motor alone is getting quite pricey, LML stopped making them and all the ads for cheap ones have vanished, SIP lists them at almost $1500 and I bet you maybe got the whole scoot for less.

So you already have a 2003 and this one is a 2005? Your 2003 have disk brake as well? I can't see the vids, did you get it started?

Tomorrow I will drain the gas and put in some fresh gas. I will clean the carb in situ - a sort of a quick clean. And, I will try to start it.

If it starts Ill let it go with the spare parts for a reasonable price to get another into the hobby.

If not I will ponder.....

Including horncast and headset cover piece. If I were to have kept it would have painted the horncast, headset cover and two cowls black or red.

I wouldn't worry about the homie hookup. Try craigslist, facebook, scoot.net and move on. Get some summer cash for another fun project/toy!

Aw HELL yeah, it's def worth that and the motor sounds OK. A good running shifty is getting harder to find for anything less. How does it go, did you take a test ride?

No, haven't ridden it. Was raining today and not registered so apprehensive to take it out. But maybe on the weekend.

I took it round the block. It goes and moves through all gears. The clutch is stiff and sticky. It needs a thorough going through before I would take it on the road.

Look for the listing. A scooter for sale that is not in CA. Who would have thought.....

Being in the Midwest I understand. Now that I have a spare motor, if you happen to see something with 8" wheels let me know. Not a purist, I would most likely pull the motor if it had one and give it to one.
