Well.... took out the newly rebuild B-62 for a grocery store run...and went plaid

The story: I put the front rack and box on B-62 the night before and wasn't planning on going 60, just a store run.

On my way to Fred Meyer, there were a bunch of vintage cars pulling into the AutoZone parking lot, so I followed. There must've been 30 vintage cars there, and they started directing me to park Thanks, but I'm just passing through.

Almost to the store, I decided to give my wrist a twist and see what happened - 66 happened - sitting up - with a box on the front - and it was still climbing! The car in front slowed my plaidness... It took all of 15 to 30 seconds. Amazing how nice this engine feels now, and the scooter in general.

So B-62 has re-earned it's way into the 60/8 club.

Ready to roll

66 for the 62....with a crate on the front...

Checked out the car show on the way home...

Thanks Voodoo... This one was really a labour of love. Vietbodge but wasn't too bad. It's basically my take on a Sei Giorni (obviously). Spent a fair bit on the older style parts as it was a daily rider and you don't want cheap parts failing. Motor was a 221 MHR with 24SI, gearing was standard with 25/62 to align with the 8in wheels. it really was a beautiful thing to ride.

What are you guys using to measure your mph?
My speedometer isn't very accurate.
I have been using a cycling app called Strava.
Is this accurate enough for consideration into the 60/8" club?

If it records over 60 mph, probably.

I use DigiHUD. A basic GPS speedometer. There are a bunch of others out there.

I already have mine

I think I'm going to repaint the VBB, and I'll install it then.

I feel like I should re-qualify, but that would require me getting the VBB back in fighting shape, and I have a pretty solid project pipeline going right now, which is going to return to "weekends only" mode here soon.

There are dedicated speedometer phone apps that are dead accurate and easy to use.

I have a GPS based bicycle computer that is great. Self contained, USB rechargeable and requires no calibration.

I have a GPS Speedo that's due to arrive any day that I'm going to fit into the current blanking plate on the GL. I'll report back on how it works.

Well the Captain of this ship has made it o-fish-all! Thanks Jess. There is now an offical MV "Going Plaid" award. The particular requirements (aside from going ludicrously fast on old scooters) to achieve the "Going Plaid" award are bit fuzzy... But, I do know that being an advocate for the righteousness of 8" Vespas would be at the top of the list (if we actually had said list).

With that said, there are two folks that jumped straight to my mind for their love and advocacy of 8" bikes, tuning, restos, and just being an asset to the MV community in general. So without blathering on I would like to give the first two official "Going Plaid" awards to Gickspeed and SoCal.

Well done boyos, and mucho thanks for all you have done for MV and NSM in particular.

We were happy to award the first two Going Plaid achievements to Gick and Mike. But, tons of folks deserve this icon. So the moderators had a chat and to unfuzzy the list of requirements for the coveted Going Plaid achievement, we came up with a short list of questions.

Ask yourself the following...

1. Did you pilot a Vespa with 8" wheels?
2. Was it Ludicrous? (Ludicrous = exceeding 60mph on those 8 inch wheels)
3. Did you post GPS verification?

If you answered yes to all the above... then you have "Gone Plaid"! Please alert a moderator to have your achievement added to your profile if it's not there already.

I don't think I posted a GPS of it, but I've been there on my VBB, and will go there again once it comes back up on the project list

I put speed-rated tires on that puppy for a reason!

What can I say? Thanks BN and thank you Jess for providing this clean, well-lit place to hang out and share the fun of these little machines. Keep rocking those 8's!

1. Yes
2. YES! I chickened out at 61mph but had lots more to go.
3. Yes.

The thing that scared me the most is that I built this scooter myself from a box of parts. When it only went 40mph it wasn't so bad but now that it has a Gickspeed built engine it is a little terrifying.
