Yep. The menu bar is fairly crowded on smaller phones, and I’m trying to make room while not losing any functionality. If you click your profile picture, you’ll see the various user-specific options there (including logout).

So, on a G4 iBook running Tiger and Firefox 3.6.28 things look a little wonky. I know ... it's an edge case, but I thought you'd want to know.

Heh. Looks like it isn’t picking up the CSS file. Which is odd, actually -- out of all the things that might fail on something that old, CSS wouldn’t have been my first guess.

Seems to me the emojis insert correctly at the cursor position now. Did you get fed up of people reporting this over and over, and quietly fix it?

Yes. But no promises as to whether it is really fixed in all circumstances on all browsers.

Well that sucks. As a test, could you go to Safari settings and clear all website data? That will clear out ore-existing cookies and start fresh.

I had already done that. Forgot to mention it. It's definitely a Safari thing though. I installed Edge on my iPad and it worked. And now Safari works again...

If you recall, I had mentioned a similar problem where I couldn't stay logged in and then the problem would suddenly go away by its own. I don't know if it's my side or something else...

You don't block first-party cookies or anything, do you? There are definitely some sketchy bits of code that start getting used if the client doesn't accept cookies, and that code doesn't get tested very well.

Just for reference:

I had the same thing happen on my iPhone with the current OS and Safari a couple of days ago. I tried several times during the day, and it simply went back to the "guest" welcome page. No login error or anything.

I went to settings and cleared all data, and things worked as normal.

Thanks to you both for the tip-off. I have been attempting to straighten out some of the legacy session-handling code, in particular to reinforce the defenses against the constant onslaught of attackers and malicious actors. Apparently I've screwed something up in the process, though I'm not sure what. Steve's error, in particular, might have been during a transitionary period where things definitely weren't working right, which was later fixed. Not sure about the errors SaFiS is seeing.

Okay. Thanks for the info. I'll look some more at the code and see if I can figure out what's going on. It might be time for a wholesale rewrite of the session-handling code.

Sort-of related side-note: browsing anonymously (i.e. not logged in) no longer sets or requires cookies. We now track anonymous sessions solely via the IP address + user agent string, and that's really only to neutralize malicious actors.

The only oddity I've seen, is that on iOS I occasionally get logged out. This has happened maybe four times since I started visiting here again. No problem, I simply log in again.

But when I do the forum options are limited to Started and Replied in portrait, and Watched, Started, and replied in horizontal. To get "New" to show up, I need to first go into any forum. Then, when clicking on "Forum", New shows up. Weird, but again, no problem, and certainly not worth chasing down.

I just tried again to capture screen shots.

There are a couple things going on here. The auto-login checkbox (under the field where you type your password) used to be off by default, until very recently. It is now on by default, which will set an auto-login key (via cookies) that will log you in even when your current session has expired (which happens after about an hour). So prior to a few weeks ago, being logged out after being away from the site for more than an hour would be the normal behavior, unless you habitually clicked the auto-login check box every time you logged in.

The "New" link isn't showing up because when you log in, your last login time gets reset, and the "New" category is specifically posts that are new since your last login.

Possibly noteworthy, is that I also run all of AdGuard's content blockers, both on iOS and MacOS.
Probably not a factor, since we only run a single banner, and nothing depends on it. It's possible that AdGuard could be blocking something legitimate, but we're not doing anything particularly exotic here. So I wouldn't expect it to be a factor, anyway.

I'm probably the only one, but figured I'd make the ask anyways...

I wonder if there's any support for adding an "are you sure?" window if user clicks "just walk away"?

Current behavior is immediate cancelation of whatever user was typing. It hasn't happened to me yet, but I always get a little nervous clicking on "preview" or "submit" with these little mobile phone buttons and after I've suffered through tapping out a long message.

It does seem like sort of a mixed message. Giving the user a "just walk away" button but then second guessing them and saying "wait wait, are you sure?" seems kind of mean.

This is a fair point -- it's not difficult to hit the right button on the desktop view, but one could easily fat finger the buttons on mobile.

I've added it to my long list of projects -- I want to stew on it for a bit on the off chance that there's a better option that satisfies all the requirements.
