Thank you Jess for the tip on the wiring.
I wanted the GPS to work with the ignition not directly connected to the battery.

I had put in the USB plug from scooterwest in the leg shield so had the waterproof power plug and cable already relocated behind the leg shield.

bought some extra plugs on amazon.
soldered the GPS wiring to the plugs and then plug and play behind the leg shield.

Followed Robot's instructions for taking off the horn cover mirror covers and headlight cover and then ran the wires up behind the leg shield through the headlight cover and the mirror cover.

Put everything back together and voila!!
