2.5 months ago, I got my motorcycle license. A week later I got my Vespa. Today, I completed a 3-day 270 mile trip through the Texas hill country, going from New Braunfels to Pedernales State Park, to Bastrop State Park, and back home to New Braunfels.

It was a BLAST!!

Day 1: New Braunfels to Pedernales

This was the most laid back day by far, with a nice tour through River Road (a beautiful place to ride if you're in this area), up north through the hill country and in to Dripping Springs. A fuel stop and some delicious BBQ later, and I was back up.

We had a wind advisory the first/second day so I really had to be careful with the sudden gusts. All in all it was a very nice ride on a decently cloudy day. No rain!

...until about 2am..

But luckily it stopped about 6am. I woke up to a wet bike, but everything else was sheltered so no harm, no foul.

Day 2: Pedernales to Bastrop State Park

Jetboil for my coffee and oatmeal, a quick packing up and I was off about 9:30am!

I was excited about this day because I planned to go through South Austin, which I've always dreamed about doing in a Vespa. The back country roads are so fun in the hill country. I arrived to South Austin around 11am, which warranted a coffee stop at a local food truck.

I decided to go up South Congress and through downtown to East 6th street and landed at Via 313. I was looking for an old Cheesesteak food truck I used to go to, but decided the Detroit style pizza was where my heart was at that day. And boy did I decide right.

The pizza shown is "The Rocket", which is usually soppressata, arugula, and parm. They were out of soppressata so I settled for a good ole' pep as a substitute.

After getting out of Austin, I headed East towards Bastrop. The wind was going crazy at this time as more flat land opened up on FM roads. Stopped in Bastrop for gas and some groceries, and wound up at Bastrop State Park about 3:45pm.

The evening, campsite, weather - EVERYTHING was beautiful. I couldn't help but snap some pics of the hog as the camp grounds were mostly empty.

Day 3: Bastrop to New Braunfels

More oatmeal and more coffee for breakfast. The best combo!

I mapped quite a bit of back country roads to get me from Bastrop to west of I-35 into Buda so I could take the main FM road that parallels I-35 back to New Braunfels. No wind today, and perfect weather outside.

Crossed into Buda and continued into San Marcos. I needed a pit stop to eat and stretch my legs, so Hop Daddy it was! I love their Buffalo Bill burger (a bison burger with buffalo sauce/bleu cheese).

This was mostly 50/55MPH posted roads after San Marcos into New Braunfels. I arrived back home around 2:30pm.

All in all, this was a huge blast and I want to thank the community for the great advice and tips as both a new rider and a first time overnight rider!

Good on you.
