https://www.motorcycle.com/new-model-preview/2023-piaggio-mp3-three-wheeled-scooters-first-look.html

I like the new dashboard. 530cc but no power increase. A few lbs shed. Not a lot of change...

Personally - not a fan of all the electronic aid stuff (lane change, distance alarms, rear camera(?) .. etc) but YMMV.

$4k worth of safety, navigation & a dash that's semi visible in the bright sun, am I even gonna be able to tell if I left the turnsignals on?
It always seemed dumb that a bike with throttle by wire didn't have cruise control, I guess a few lines of code were too expensive...

^This X 10. IMO, it has lost its unique styling and now resembles what everybody else has been doing using the I Robot styling design studio theme. Remove the badge, and it could be a Yamaha without the reliability.

Looks like another revamp of the Master motor, and considering power is staying the same me thinks they've hit the limit on how far they can go with that block. It is high time to retire that engine IMO and come up with something that has more low end torque and doesn't have to rev as much.

The problem with a flat panel dash is not only readability, but also reliability. They simply do not hold up in the sun and harsh environments like a old fashioned crystal LCD panel. They should have gone with something like the panel on the new BV 400.

Another gripe of mine with these tech panels is they only look hip, current and trendy until the next iPhone is released. I think the best is a combo of analog gauges with a center screen such as on the current Honda Goldwing. And yes, I know the current gen MP3 like mine has that style but not with a LCD panel that looks like it was sourced from the dollar store.

I already see one issue that is gonna crop up. The buttons are now clustered in proprietary pods, so if one button goes out (it is Italian after all, the masters of electrical failures) it will require replacement of the entire pod.

Guess Piaggio is warming up the cash registers.

As for cruise control, that is coming all right . . . in the next decade or so. Honestly, I doubt they will ever do it considering the core MP3 market are city dwellers. How often do we use let alone need cruise in the city???

Wow, I like the way the new model look! And I was just thinking about picking up a 2021.. Would love to have the new model instead but not sure how long the wait would be for it to released here in the US, I guess I'll have to give my dealer a call!

The fresh cosmetics are handsome but why didn't Piaggio use the gilded-tuning-fork, front wheel spoke treatment to highlight the air valve location, eliminating that minor irritant of visual roulette once and for all when checking tire pressure?

First impression: It's so fussy looking!

They seem to be moving even more in a direction of "sport bike" that just doesn't fit. One of the design elements that, to me, work on the MP3 is a smoothness - a sleekness - that the 250/400 had (still my favorite). This just looks like a jumble.

Raising the front and rear fenders to expose more of the underlying mechanics also doesn't work for me. This scooter is never going to be a Niken. Maybe someone has always regretted discontinuing the Fuoco and is trying to recreate it.

Likes: I do like that the turn signals have been reintegrated into the body instead of on stalks. More power is always welcome. The seat is higher - that works for me. I've appreciated the lane-change and blind-spot warnings on my Hyundai, so I'm sure I would like them on a scooter. (Why, though, are they only on the higher priced model?)

I think the real elephant in the room in the room is the price tag. 13K Euro/14K US.

They must be joking or they are putting drugs in their gelato over in Pontedera.

For that price, you are knocking on the door of the new Yamaha T-Max 560 (starts at 13300 Euro) which has a electric windscreen and cruise control.

Worse yet, it is more expensive than a Honda Forza 750 (11700 Euro) which has a proper maintenance free DCT gearbox and was built with attention and care.

Both of those bikes have full color screens, keyless systems, LED lighting, etc, etc, etc.

Oh, and they're Made in Japan so quality and reliability are included at no extra charge.

In the US, the current MP3 is priced fairly/correctly at just over 9K US because the competition is just too fierce and the choice is overwhelming. Of course, spotty dealer coverage and indifferent customer support and the fact you are buying from Piaggio's outlet market reflects that price.

Earliest US availability is likely to be around 2024 as a 2025 model.

IF you are going to buy a brand new MP3 (current or future forward), pay that extra bit of money for the 4 year factory warranty coverage. It is worth it, especially for a bike like the MP3

There is no extra power, only a bit of extra torque.

Besides, at 44 ponies they are starting to get near to the legal power limit these things can be sold under with a standard car license. In Europe, I think 47 ponies is that limit.

Yamaha hits that limit to the very max, the Honda exceeds it but those bikes require a bike license.

Piaggio is banking on European city dwellers needing transportation (everyone has a car license but not everyone has a bike license), hence why their target market is cities like Paris which is pushing hard to get all (private passenger) cars out.

But at these new prices, you are getting too close to getting a base entry new car.

Because the valve is a disposable item that is supposed to be changed with every tire change.

Try finding a valve that would have the same color as the bike.

A easy 1 minute fix to locate the valve at a glance is to put on color valve caps available from any auto parts store.

i think its a typo the picture shows the 350 HPE or the new yourban called mp3 350 HPE
I heard about the rumor a 1 cylinder 530 master but the 492 wall is 2.1mm thick

Piaggio.it doesn't say anything about a 530 only 350 400 and 500 HPE

I don't think piaggio will be able to get 530 out of a master engine then the cylinder wall would be 1mm or less thick

A 2 ciylinder won't fit in the frame

A bigger stroke won't work also there is no room due to the placement of the fueltank

im looking at a nice upgrade for the head assembly right now taking the heads of a Aprilia Shiver /Dorsoduro 750 it got 92 HP 2 camshafts and bigger 40mm inlet and 45 outlet ports could boost the performance big time and no floating valves on long highspeed highway drives a complete head with camshafts is new about 1500.-

There is plenty of coverage about the new 530 model. It's not a typo. That said the minimally increased engine size (the exact specs aren't yet out) doesn't make more power, just a bit of extra torque.

Kymco has the new CV3 coming soon. That is a 550cc parallel twin in it with 51HP. I can imagine that will be a bit pricey considering the motor they are dropping in, but supposed to be car license friendly also. I do like the look of the new MP3 in a few areas, but no others. I can't exactly justify the price if it does stick around that high a number.

I like the look of it. It takes some of the edgier design elements that the 2023 MP3 moved towards even farther. IMHO, that works.

If I didn't already have a 2020 MP3 (which I really like) I would be very interested.

I stand corrected. They did finally add cruise control, although with all this tech onboard I'm gonna venture that bikes are heading the same way as high tech cars.

In other words, keep it only as long they are under factory warranty and then swap it out for another since the cost of repairs and parts will be just too much to justify on a vehicle that is out of warranty. Basically, take the German car approach and keep 'em coming back for more.

I'm not impressed with the looks. Looks to me like Piaggio copied (ahem stole) several styling touches from the Yamaha Tricity 300 such as the general front end, colored wheel spoke, the front wheel fenders, etc. among other touches.

Completely agree - most of the electronics do nothing for me and it's just one more thing that can break/fail. All I need is ABS, even ASR seems overkill on a bike with 40-odd horsepower... but I'll take it. The other stuff ... I'd rather still look over my shoulder than blindly trust electronics.
