Sadly most of the small towns I've been through are like that… I visited a thrift store and the woman who owns it explained to me most of the buildings are owned by the city and rent them cheaply to bring in tourists for revenue but the what's keeping these towns alive are Marijuana dispensaries.. they average 10 per town

Small towns were built for a different era.

They were largely to serve the surrounding farming community as a place to buy feed, equipment and stuff for the family.

Now farms that used to have fifty employees can now get the same work done with two or three.

And everything can be purchased on line.

Or at a Walmart or a Dollar Store if the town is too small for a Walmart.

In Florida, most small towns that still have active downtowns either have a prison nearby or have a tourist trade.

Regardless, it is sad to see these vacant towns.

As CAP'T GARY says - heat exhaustion will sneak up on you. When we moved from Michigan to Alabama, all the locals warned me about the heat. But I'm weird...I actually like it and don't really suffer when it's 100 degrees or more. I just go into "low power" mode where everything I do is slow and relaxed, and then it's just fine. Many years ago I worked in an iron foundry (pouring ramp and other areas), back before worker safety was a thing, and that job pretty much acclimated me to any heat intensive environment. But do keep in mind when heat exhaustion happens, it will take you down in a hurry.

Sadly the trip is over.as sore and tired as I am I wasn't home an hour and went for a short ride.I don't want to stop.Met lots of nice folks along the way and I can't wait to do it again. A good wash and detail and oil change is needed…them I'm gonna wash and service the Vespa… lol
