Modern Vespa

There are so few accessories available for my Liberty yet I think the Liberty easily outnumbers any individual Vespa models. Is it a case of perfection that the Liberty doesn't need the bling or crash bars like the Vespa gets in abundance? I would like to add this and that but there is only a few this and not so much that. It is an inexpensive blank canvas just wanting to be customized. Your thoughts?
I would like a larger gas tank, better charging system for electrics and higher capacity battery. How about a trailer for day camping supplies to go to beach or on the mountail trails with the larger tires? Custom paints just like my Baci Perugina are beautiful. Can we get the HUGE capacity box cases like the Post Office or the front are cases with the relocated headlight as a conversion? There is so much more to do. Maybe even a trike conversion like the Piaggio MyMoover in Japan.

No. Yes. Maybe. Not in that order.

You can't get any of those things for a Vespa in the US either.

Vespa seems to appeal to people who value style and "presence" and are willing to pay for it, while the Piaggio lines seem more suited to people who want useable function and commuter reliability and aren't as willing to pay for decoration and style. Just my impression.

The Baci Perugina is crafted to perfection and any attempt at customisation can therefore only subtract from the scooter nirvana lesser scooter models aspire to.

Actually I think the quality brown leather would be cooler and softer than the standard black vinyl in the sun. Itz a very classy ride. It is a real bargain for a $3,000 scooter. And I believe this Baci Perugina is already a collectible.

It is correct the Liberty outnumbers any Vespa. In Italian cities it is probably by far the most driven scooter.
But I think it is in the first place a practical means of transportation, nothing fancy about it.

It's all about Target Market.

Vespas are more expensive and is more about style so a bigger range of aftermarket accessories makes more business sense.

The whole reason I picked the Liberty was its simplicity and large wheels. That being said I like the Vespa styles a bit more. I'm always tempted to get a Sprint one day. Same simple insides as my Liberty with Vespa style on the outside.

My Liberty is my daily transportation and I've never seen another one in my area. I see a bunch of Vespas running around. I see a yellow GTS on a regular basis. A Sei Giorni. Blue GTS, or it could be a Primavera? A few vintage ones as well. I'll even include the Stella as I see 2 in my area.

But I'll stick with my workhorse for now. It may blend in with its surroundings but I like it.

I wouldn't be too downcast about the scooter's humble pedigree. For one, it has a Vespa long cage engine in it. For another, since it's built in Vietnam it's probably built to stand up to Asian roads ensuring durability and a long life. It's success as a workhorse is built right in.

Vespa Crash bars serve the purpose of protecting the metal body work, which can be very expensive to repair. Broken plastic panels are easier to replace.

You can get large top cases for the Liberty, but not OEM. I'm not sure why Piaggio doesn't offer some options that might cross over the brands. On my Piaggio Fly, I have a Givi E370 that offers great functionality.

As I see it, the Piaggio scooter line exists to "let Vespa be Vespa" while it competes with other brands and does whatever it takes, design-wise, from the basic Fly to the BV line and up to the MP3; there's no DNA in danger of scrambling there, unlike with the Brand That Made Pontedera Famous. To me, that's a win-win.

Maybe some are made there, but not all. In another recent thread somebody clearly identified that their Liberty was made in Italy (checked the vin prefix)

That point to me was debatable. I discovered that 2008 and 2009 Fly 150s had ZPAM prefixes despite the fact that those years were all built by Zongshen in China. The more knowledgeable pointed out that one of the digits in the VIN indicate what factory the scooter was built. The VIN, in many cases, indicates where the bulk of the content is made, not where it's built.

Lance scooters all have Taiwan VINs even though they are built in SYM's China plant.

My 2022 Liberty Baci Perugina is an instant classic gorgeous in Deep Blue #D05. I call it 'Candy Blue' to celebrate the connection. I hope that I can figure out how to keep the many many sticker graphics from peeling off. A few seem loose just with my scooter parked outside. I suppose that will be part of the personality of this special Baci Perugina edition. We should look for a replacement sticker kit for the aftermarket. On the other hand the Candy Blue (Deep Blue) is such a pure non-metallic that some owners might be tempted to go naked by removing ALL the stickers. I know that I am tempted. Piaggio is repeating this for a 2023 model year again. Anybody remember the 1964½ Ford Mustang? The first year edition is the best.

I'm presuming that this is a chocolate joke (to those who don't know, Baci is an Italian chocolate. It literally translates to "kisses," although it's nothing like Hershey's.)

However, the GTS's espresso brown vinyl seat gets absolutely destroyed in the sun. I wouldn't trust this seat outside.

mayorofnow. Thankz for the comment. My 2022 Piaggio Liberty Baci Perugina has a beige brown real-life LEATHER seat at no extra charge. Now you know on a Harley, BMW or even on a Vespa you are looking at a $750 ~ $1,000 option!!! This full length chocolate dimpled seat is thoughtfully included to compliment this Baci Perugina creation. I wish I could say Italian leather. I don't even know if whether it is cow or sow. Either way itz real 100% leather.

It is very nice. It shouts class all the way. Luxury on a Liberty!!

So I study my manual cover to cover, everywhere to find how to care for the leather seat properly but Piaggio was silent. I have put leather conditioner on it. I keep it clean. Also my scooter resides under itz cover 100% of the time anyway. I am not ready to ride it yet (but I will eventually). Letz hope October 2022 I go riding.
