Here a showcase of my oldest Vespa. It is a 1971 Vespa 50 Special.
It has the original factory painting and is quite original...

It is licensed as a moped in my country.
Meaning it runs 55 km (just below 40 mph) and is agile as hell!

Nickname for this one is 'Bello Giallo'

Hi! Congratulations from another 50 Special owner!!!

Looks really good, awesome condition!!

Thought you owned a Vespino! In Spain they were very common in the 90s, they were used to work with them, most on pizza delivering!

Thanks Carter for your remarks.

Somewhere, sometime, I saw an article where the gave the large frame vespa's the Italian name 'Vespone' and the small frame Vespa's the name 'Vespino'.

I'm not sure to what kind of Vespino's you are referring...are those the Vespa mopeds like CIAO and BOXER?

That's it! The Vespino was a moped, just like Ciao or Boxer, but made by the spanish Motovespa, and didn't have the "Vespa" brand, "Vespino" was the brand. It was made for 32 years, so you can still find them in every single corner in every single town in Spain. At first I thought you had one of those, I was going to ask you where did you find it!!

Anyway, I really LOVE yellow 50Specials, so congratulations once again!

-I never heard about that Vespino-Vespone story, I'll try to find it!-

The chrome flash on the horn cover as well as the fender crest are present in both too - interesting to see how much inspiration they took..

Beautiful scooter btw, clean and unspoiled. Bar-end mirror looks fantastic on that streamlined headset.

Thanks all for the remarks...

Actually, I really wanted a 50cc with the round headlight at first. Then this one came along, looking very 'natural'.

So I re-thought and bought

PS: Only had to do some minor fixing on it to make it look/run better.

Weather was OK yesterday, made a short trip to the canal locks.

It is very 'cute' to ride on this oldie, but it also is a bit hard too handle with the handgearing etc.

I guess I am a bit spoiled riding an automatic LX too

Small things:
-new coating on rims
-new 'old' Special saddle (orignal was a duo seat)
-new cylinder (DR brand) to be able to do close to 40 mph 60kmh
-direction flashers removed, mirror added on bar end
-added spare wheel (for the looks 8) )

It was the exact same model and color of your Bello Giallo, minus a couple of differences: mine did not have the spare tire attached, the seat was a 2-people seat, instead of a single-person seat like yours, no rear view mirror, and there was no back rack either. Other than that, absolutely identical.

I was 15 years old back then, in high school, and loving the freedom and the independence of my first Vespetta!

Just to emphasize your reminiscence feeling, some more.
If you forget about the orange blinkers, this must have been it:

I like more the 50Special than the 50S.

That colour look's original..Is it?

The yellow paint is original, from 1971 indeed!

Cute Sakkerju!

I guess "Vespa" must mean "deer" or "moose" in Dutch?

Thats a lovely looking scooter.
I had a 50 special in the mid 80's with a primmy engine in it, my mate Tickle smashed it up on the way to the I.o.W. in '87 or '88.
We did the rally and then cut it down when we got back.
Happy days.

Wow! Too sweet, if I had a small frame I would loose 50 pounds just to sit on it. R

That is very cool...love the square headlight!
