After taking so much from this great website I thought it about time I gave something back, so here is my brief review of the Tucano Urbano "Steve" jacket. A nod to Steve McQueen.

Item: Tucano Urbano "Steve" jacket
Price: £71.99
Links: I got mine from here http://ekmpowershop2.com/ekmps/shops/readspeed/tucano-urbano-giacca-steve-mens-jacket-2370-p.asp though they do sell them elsewhere. Mine is black but they also do a brown version. Full credit to Readspeed Scooters who delivered it next day and even included a Tucano Urbano wooden coat hanger.

Manufacturers Description:

Classic, short motorcycle and scooter jacket in wax cotton!

Outer shell in water-repellent, breathable, windstopper wax cotton canvas
Inner padding made of Polyester
Removable CE approved elbow and shoulder armours
Adjustable hips and sleeves
4 outer pockets + 2 inside pockets for carrying documents
Reflective safety bands

My Review:

This is a slim fitting jacket. I'm usually a Medium (40" chest) but ordered the Large as per the advice on the website which fits me perfectly. Length-wise it goes down to just below the belt
The armour feels substantial and fits very well around the shoulders and elbow. It is not noticeably obvious that it has got armour in it when looking at it
The material is wax cotton canvas. Not sure how it would fair in an accident but it does feel quite substantial.

You could also easily wear it under a rain jacket if you wanted due to its slim fit.

The only reflective detail on it is a small logo on the back and a stripe on the collar (see photo) which is greyish colour rather than silver so is quite inconspicuous, apart from night time obviously.

I would prefer an inch or two extra length (familiar story!) but other than that I am really pleased with the jacket. Its a nice combination of style and safety. You could easily wear it on a night out (even with the armour still in it) as well as on your Scooter.

Overall I would highly recommend this jacket to anyone looking for a smart/casual jacket that doesn't necessarily look like a biker jacket, has decent safety features and is a very reasonable price. I'm well chuffed with mine. I haven't worn it on the scooter yet but will update as soon as I do.

NOTE: I had previously bought the Corazzo Postale which although a nice jacket, I returned it due to the huge shoulder armour (made me look like Herman Munster/American Footballer/Cast member from Dynasty), ill fitting elbow armour and the dodgy 'concealed' reflective stripes on the back.

tucano gear
Hi, I'm a big fan of tucano stuff. Lots of style and still with a 'mod' cred. I've got the Steve, waxed cotton jacket, in brown. Lots of nice detail and pockets and armour, without looking like a biker, Without the armour, very stylish, and when you compare it with a similar Belstaff at £300 +, it's a bargain. It is so much better than a T-shirt or a Levi jacket, or a Harrington, in hot weather. I've beenknocked off a scooter several times, and the ground is hard, and the gravel really cuts you up, so a jacket with built in functionality is a great. I've also got a tucano slightly heavier, beige cotton jacket, with good hi-viz strips and elbow, shoulder and back protector. Really nice and windproof and reasonably warm, before needing heavier winter gear. If colder I wear a Harrington style Baracuta jacket underneath. I declare this as 'New Mod' as well. I've also got some great Tucano lace up boots in tan. They've been really well designed. Ankle length, with brogue over stitching, and extra toe panels, left and right for motor bike gear changing. Also small round padded ankle patches, a bit like Keds base ball boots. leather soles and insteps, and rubber heels and soles, so you have the strength of leather and the waterproofness of rubber. They do them in black, or tan. If they did them in suede, they'd beat any desert boot like Clarks. Of course they are expensive, £150, but compared with similar high end boots like Grenson, Lobbs, Seabago, well worth investing in and will last 20 years. I know I'm being pedantic, but us original mods were very particular about the cut and quality of our clothes as well as our scooters. We were the people who had bespoke suits as opposed to off the peg ones. Gass, silver machine GTS 250

Nice review of the jackets from our UK brethren. The Steve is a very nice jacket (but with an odd name). Wish I'd known about it a few weeks earlier because I purchased a First Gear jacket and its too late to take it back.. Thx.

I've just gotten the Tucano Urbano Steve Invernale Jacket which is similar except it has a fleece lining and (removable) fleece collar and it's magnificent.

tucano jacket
Looks bloody good and a fluffy collar!. I use mine mainly in summer as it's light weight. I have a heavier version with more armour for autumn and a fully armoured Bering parka for winter. That's the weather we get in the UK and we can also get all four seasons on one day too. cheers gass silver machine GTS 250.

ThorntonMellon - do you have the shoulder armour on in your picture? It doesn't look like it. If you do have it in, amazing! You don't look like a football player.

The shoulder pads on the jacket are not oversized at all, you could wear it with pads and not look like a linebacker.

I have the same jacket in brown and love it! Tucano Urbano also made a mesh version (Atitlan?) which is my favorite summer jacket. They just don't scream "bikerboy!"
