The SAE electrical (Battery Tender) connector that Jess put on his battery cover seemed to be a project even I could do. It turned out that it was, and now I have a convenient working jack for charging my battery, or for plugging in a cigarette lighter adapter to which I can then attach my GPS or iPod car adapters.

It would be nice to eliminate the need for the cigarette lighter part. Both my iPod and my GPS use a mini USB connector for power. Does anyone know of a source that sells fused SAE to Mini USB adapter cords?

Thanks,
Ed

You may be able to locate a cord at Fry's. They have alot of DIY stuff there.

I use this Powerlet-to-mini-usb cable to power my Garmin GPS. The Powerlet plug (aka the BMW connector) is a bit smaller than a cigarette lighter plug, and the cable steps the voltage down from 12v to 5v.

There was a guy @ Rides of March that had fitted a cig outlet to a P and had a USB plugin device connected to charge the chirpy and iPOD - he said Fry's had many versions, I think his was 75 watts, all in this little bitty gizmo.

Check out http://monoprice.com as a source for all manner of inexpensive USB cables (gotta love the $20 HDMIs).
