Modern Vespa

We've all seen the images of folks on scooters carrying 30 pigs and 400 feet of irrigation pipe. This morning's errand runs on my scoot, including picking up a ton of dry cleaning (okay...12 shirts, but some were long sleeved for gosh sakes) and jamming them all into the pet carrier, followed by picking up 70 pounds of dry dog food and two curtain rods (I shoved those down the back of my jacket), got me to thinking. What's the craziest thing you've carried on your scooter? While I don't want to encourage any "America's Funniest Video" incidents, hearing what folks have managed to fit into or onto their scoots should be fun. Pics would be, of course, quite welcome.

Well, once I carried a 5 foot plant in probably a 3 gallon planter home from the office (the plant service replaces them and either someone takes them or they throw 'em in the dumpster). I don't have a picture of that, but mainly I did it because this chick at work said "You can't get that home on your scooter!" so I was like "Watch me." Well, it came a flood on the way home, the wind was blowing hard, but I made it. People sure were looking at me though.

Now here's coming back from a rally. The five 1 liter bottles of homemade peach wine in the cooler were empty though.





And carrying this wild thang here is just plumb crazy.

I carried 2 watermelons and a 12 pak on my floorboards once....

okay, the were seedless watermelons.

But it was fun coraling them at stoplights.

The bike had 90 lbs of gear, aux fuel cell on rear, camelbak and fanny pak on headset.....

Notice the lack of variator cover.....it was a sucky day.

But still the adventure.

This is about as much stuff as you can possibly fit on a small Scarabeo. The only exception is that I later found a briefcase holder kind of saddle bag for the other side of it.



I do not recommend trying to climb up to Cloudcroft, NM on such a loaded up small bike. It takes forever.

On my 50cc Vino I have carried a 6ft xmas tree... I attempted to carry a 60lb subwoofer the other day but had to abort that one...

I've done the "carry a large pole down the back of the jacket" trick. The problem was when I drove into my garage forgetting how high the pole was sticking up! Crunch.

50# dog food 20# cat foos on seat behind me. #bags of groceries in the top case and anothe 2 bags under the seat. I think this is the most I've ever put on the 250 at one time.

A couple of months ago, I rode home with a 5' x 8' rolled carpet. I rested one end on the floor board, and stood it up resting between my legs and left arm. I only had about a 4 mile ride home, but it was a little sketchy trying to turn.
