Modern Vespa

My sister saw this ET4 in Soho in NYC. She took a few pics and sent them to me. I have no idea who the owner is, but it's a great-looking scoot.

What's customized on it short of the crash bars and rear rack? Don't get me wrong, though, it is a beautiful scooter. Alabaster is by far my favorite color that any of the modern Vespas have come in.

Well, I could be wrong, but those hand grips, foot mat and seat didn't come stock, did they? There is no custom paint, but don't you think that the overall effect those plus the mirrors, rack and crash bars would qualify it as a "customized" scoot?

Or maybe not.

Either way, it's a good look.

I know adding mods and customizing can be in the eye of who does it, and who views it. IMO if it did not come stock, it is a mod. Just my view, very nice scooter, and pics, Beale.

I've seen that scooter downtown. It's tastefully accessorized. There are some nice scooters usually parked in Battery Park City. Most of the scooters you see parked downtown, are battle-scarred from daily commuting in a harsh environment.

Since you can buy all those things - brown floor mat and grips, crash bars, rear rack, and mirrors - off the shelf, I tend to think of it as "accessorized" as opposed to customized.

In my mind, a customized scooter (and I'm talking purely cosmetics here, not anything underneath "the hood") is one that has something you unique - be it a paint job (like the gorgeous one on your GT, Kevin), or a unique Corbin seat or one of Kristal's scooter seat covers. In other words, a customized scooter needs to have something custom-made.

Again, don't get me wrong, I've got nothing wrong with accessorizing. That's what my scoot has going for it at the moment.

Oh, and to clarify, I do think that the mod look with tons of mirrors and lights is a custom look, since you have to pick out how many mirrors and lights and bells and whatever else you're going to throw on there and where. It'd be something unique to your scoot.

Yeah, Jon, I get what you're saying. From now on I will use "accessorized" instead of "customized" if it's something you can simply buy and put on a scooter.

Jon, how do you classify when things have been done under the hood?

Is a Malossi kit custom or no? Is a one off exhaust pipe custom? What about an engine swap?

I'd say the ET4 is modified but not customized. I think you need to do the seat or paint or both to get a customized look. I think Kevin, Ramrezz425, and Girlbike are still leading the pack.

Not to the extent on the ET4!! I've got the short windscreen on it,a black and white number plate and a small Fred Perry chevron on each panel.And THAT'S IT!!

I'll take a few pics at the weekend,once Ive cleaned it!! This British winter's playing havoc ..

Well, I guess my Bajaj would classify as modified & customized.

I've added a HRS pipe, and a UNI air filter with custom mount. I've added a cuppini rear rack with tire carrier. Added a fender crest. Oh, and the coolest thing I've done (IMO) is add two inch black reflective tape to the front fender and rear cowls. The bike is white & black so the black outlines seem to add a bit of tasteful "dressing up". I also covered the fender crest in the same stuff. Hopefully I'll be more visible at night.

WAIT - my bike's not a VESPA! Oh well, I posted anyways....

Aha,nope,I went to the GLRO on my PX!! Been to loads of events in Essex on it though,had it up for sale for a while till it went in the end..That was at our local run to take gifts to the kids in hospital at Margate in 2004.
