Hi All

I am overseas and shipping a Vespa from London to Sydney. It needs to be transported from south London to north London but also have the fuel tank drained, the battery disconnected and thoroughly cleaned to suit the bureaucrats of the Australian Quarantine service (the whole bike needs to be cleaned as per below)

"Your vehicle must be thoroughly clean from soil and road grime, plant matter and seeds. Important points to check are:
wheels, wheel guards, mud guards
spare tyre and boot
engine bay-remove water from windshield reservoir and ensure your radiator is clean and free of debris in the cooling fins
the underside of the vehicle must be clean
above and around fuel tank
inside chassis rails
under seats
The vehicle must be vacuumed to be clean of soil, food, sand and gravel."

Does anyone know of a London bike transport company that can handle the above ? My shipper from London to Sydney can't handle the Vespa mechanical stuff and clean.

Many thanks

WD

Hi there, I work for an overseas removal company and have experience of shipping bikes and cars to Aus. The specifications for the cleaning of your scooter are supplied by AQIS Australian Quarantine Inspection Service. They do not officially recognise anyone else's opinion of "clean". Even if you paid for an extensive valet service that came with a certificate AQIS would still inspect the scoot and (most likely) order some cleaning on arrival. Typically AQIS charge around AUD 175 - 200 for the inspection.

My advice would be for you to do the clean yourself. If someone else does it you'll still get billed in Aus!

With regard to transport, your shipper should be able to collect from you.

How are they shipping the scoot? The very least protection you should accept is a wooden case. Not any wood though. It MUST be stamped with ISPM15 certification. With out this you risk having the shipment turned round in Aus for immediate return to the UK. Do not ship RORO or groupage (unless cased).

PM me if you want more info. Don't forget to calculate your taxes and duties for the scooter!

Ah, just noted you are overseas so cannot do the clean yourself! A valet company should be able to get close to AQIS clean if the can do the engine bay on car. You must also let them know that they need to do the underside including front mudguard.
