Some of you may remember that I used my Iron Butt ride to raise funds for the Radiology suite in our town's medical center. So this is what I noticed while waiting to get my knee x-rayed last week.

Oh, and by the way, 'get out of work' is good advice David, though these days, almost impossible to heed. I hope the healing goes as fast as humanly possible. |

David, very sorry to hear about your accident and hope you feel better very soon. Careful with that Oxy...can have some unpleasant side effects.
My husband shattered the head of his humerus and broke his fibula two years ago in Italy due to diesel on the road. We were coming down one of the winding streets out of Cortona in a light rain when a little old woman decided to cross the street in front of him on a blind curve. My husband brought the rental scooter to a complete stop, put his foot down onto the previously unnoticed diesel on the rain-slicked street, and went over like a hammer. He now has a nice titanium replacement shoulder. Your write-up reminded me of listening to that scary drawn out violin note you hear in science fiction movies when something very bad is happening very slowly...the note that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand on end. Hope you're feeling better soon and just remember RICE: rest, ice, compression, elevation. |

Don't know how I missed this. The first thing I look for on the forum is a post from Treppenwitz.
Take your meds. Do the therapy. I've got a titanium plate and 12 screws in the end of my collarbone from a drop. I feel your pain. |

Sorry to hear about your spill. Luckily, I have never had the opportunity to slide on oil, fuel or even ice. After riding for a while, you take for granted the stability of having two good tires gripping firmly on the road. Yet this is another reminder that we always have to be 120 % aware of our riding environment and that the strangest most unpredictable things happen when riding.
Last summer, an acquaintance was riding on a highway (401) on a very hot day in Toronto, Ontario (Canada). He had his face shield open about 1/2 an inch to allow for additional fresh air to flow through. Instead, someone through out a cigarette butt and it remarkably bounced from the road into the 1/2" opening in his shield and lodged itself between his glasses and eye. Needless to say he panicked and wiped out at a high speed. He did live to talk about it, but again, how could anyone predict this? |
