How come the Scarabeo 200 is not that popular ? I'm a Vespa guy BUT I find the Sacarabeo 200 to be a good looking scooter with bigger wheels. Just curious
I have a Scarabeo 150 and it has been a great. I needed a freeway commuter and it hauls, quietly and comfortably. It is almost too nice, like a flying carpet.
Not many shops will work on it around Chicago. Some parts might be hard to get. So far there is nothing I haven't figured out though. The gurus are on apriliaforum.com.
They are around in Houston but I do see more Sports City 250s than Scarabeo 200s. The local dealer was selling NOS Sports Cities like pancakes earlier this year. One of the gals who rides with us has a tiger stripe Scarabeo and I saw a silver 200 a couple days ago but mostly I see the Scarabeo 500s or the Sports Cities in the big wheel Italian scoots around town.
Many more Vespas, Genuine Buddys and Kymcos than any Aprilia in Houston.
I had too many things go wrong with my old Scabby 200 (2008)
-Front Disc brake calliper and rotor failure
-Flooded float bowls that were set at sea level
-Premature roller wear
-Mad cow sound (Premature Clutch bell wear)
All that before reaching 800 km
I gave up and traded it in for a different scooter.
The Vespa GTS 250 that I have now is a lot more reliable.
Same problems here, but it's my rear caliper...also
Speedo quit, needed new sending unit
Gas gauge quit, needed new sending unit...
It took two tries to the dealer to get the carb running right....
Right now, I am going to put in some Dr. Pulley's and a new belt, and clean the clutch out....if I get some good weather here.....
Sort of similar situation here with the problems. I'm on the second engine, but I bought it with a bad crank bearing. I've had carb bogging problems (which is somewhat helped by removing the evap system), and speed sensor fail. Still a great scooter though with 10,000 miles. I'm hoping to easily go another 10K.
