Straight Talk is claiming unlimited text, web data and phone minutes for $45/ month-- way cheaper than I'm paying AT&T. My parents told me that if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. Has anyone here actually used Straight Talk and can give a review?

Web reviews seem mixed but 9 to 5 Mac glows about it

I'd appreciate any input BEFORE I pull the plug. Thanks!

Don't know it but VERY interested in the outcome if you pull the trigger.
Thanks

StraightTalk Report
I thought I'd post my experience switching my cell phone service to Straight Talk. I have an iPhone 4 that was previously on AT&T. Straight Talk is on the same radio frequency as AT&T and supposedly uses AT&T's towers. My switch over was pretty painless. It took about 30 minutes to port my number from AT&T to ST (or I could've gotten a new number.) I entered the APN data into the phone according to ST's instructions and was good to go.

My cell service has been as good or better than AT&T-- it actually appears that I have more bars and better data speeds with ST! There are a couple of drawbacks
1) ST does not support multimedia text messages. To me that's not a big deal as I have never sent a photo in a text but if you search the web you can find workaround for this.
2) No visual voicemail. When I see that a voicemail has arrived and tap the voicemail icon it calls into the carrier to retrieve the message. It then behaves like an old non-smartphone where you have to press "7," to delete the message, etc.

The bottom line is that I am very happy with ST's $45 unlimited everything plan. If you have been considering the switch I'd say to go for it. But as always your mileage may very, this is just my experience and I have no stake in the business.

Thanks for the feedback!

We are thinking of going this route. We have a friend who is on Straight Talk and is really happy too.

Very helpful review. I've seen the ads and wasn't sure how good it would. May pull the trigger on this.

We have been on Straight Talk since mid-November. Brother in Law works for Sony and gave us smart phones which are uncommon in the States but are big in Asia. The cool thing is for $10.00 we bought sims cards from Straight Talk and online got started. We had AT@T and so far the new service has been as good as before saving us about 60 scoots a month! plus we now have unlimited data. They also have auto billing so its pretty painless

Sounds good!

I just requested AT&T unlock our phones, so the first step is done.
