I'll be in the LA area this week (6-13) and I'm just wondering if there is anything cool going on or worth checking out.
Also, any good places to eat?
Any and all suggestions welcome.

I'm visiting from NYC. I'm in San Diego right now about to drive up to LA... I'm catching the Clippers game tonight.
Anyone know what we can do while we're in LA as well? |

I'll be staying in Valencia.
Down for almost anything. A friend suggested going to Animal and having some veal brains..... but.... I think I'll pass on that. lol Also, no seafood for me, I'm allergic. |

If in downtown lots of cool food places. La lives is ok but not my kind of hang out. Try dinner at the gorbals or have some raman in little Tokyo's. Stay away from china town and south LA.
Cantor's or langers delicatessen can't be beat for corn beef or pastrami yum. Grand central market for pork taco oh boy so good Try the cupcake hole or yelp german hotdog los Angeles ond a cool place with beer and exotic sausage will come up in the art's district of la p.i.e. hole not cupcake hole |

I'm out of town myself right now. I hear it's record-breakingly warm so I'd recommend going to the beach, but you probably get a lot of that over in Hawaii. It's funny how you can live in a big city and spend all your time on your own little habit-trail...I can't think of anything to do! Just stuff near my house that I do with friends that doesn't seem worthy of posting.
I go hiking in Griffith Park almost everyday when I'm in town. The Observatory there is nice and the views are great. Valencia is out on the edge of the vast megalopolis, but my favorite cultural institution is the The Museum of Jurrasic Technology in Culver City, if you get out that way. I work all over town so I mostly know where to eat lunch. Post when your hungry and I'll respond, if I see it (I'm not always online while working.) |

There are plenty of hiking trails, terranea resort (restaurants), waterfalls (yes, there are so many that there is a top 10 list), restaurants all over the place, Olvera st, Union station, the LA mission (Nuestra senora reina La Virgen de Los Angeles), Santa Monica, all the piers, Venice (freak beach/ muscle beach), Hollywood sign, Hollywood walk of fame, Griffith observatory, the shuttle, Queen Mary.... umm... That's what I can think of.

If you can get tickets you have to go to the Disney Hall in downtown LA. The architecture alone is worth the effort but a concert is the best. The Getty museum near Brentwood or the Getty Villa in Malibu are really great and are can't miss places.
My two mainstays for visitors in town are the Griffith Observatory and Venice Beach, too. It's pretty iconic. I try to avoid Hollywood, but you may have a stronger stomach than I do. You can eat anywhere and get a great meal. If you have Yelp on your phone just punch in a type of restaurant you want to try and follow the lead. This is a foodie town and there is great food everywhere, just ask Jonathon Gold, our Pulitzer prize winning food critic. You can eat great in LA and still eat cheaply. Try a Clipper game, the Lakers aren't off to a great start but seats are hard to come by. I give a +1 on the Hotel Figueroa. They have a great bar by the pool. Downtown has artwalks and if your into the hipster scene there are pretty good live music venues in Echo Park, Silverlake and, of course, Hollywood. Check out the LA Weekly our free weekly rag of culture and .... escort services, it appears ![]() Damn, I work too much. I want to do all these things in the next few days, too. ![]() Whatever you end up doing, have fun and enjoy our city. I hope your visit is a safe one. |
