Modern Vespa

I had thought to name my new Siena Ivory, GTV 300 IE "Hula Girl" But I've been getting a lot of push back from my wife and others who say that sounds way too sissy (feminine) for the name of a scooter ridden by a macho guy like me. So, after taking a good look at her from the rear, I've decided to try out the name "Badonka," taken from badonkadonk. How does "Badonka" sound to you all for the name of my scooter? Should I get it stenciled on her rear?

How about growing a pair and not naming it? Thoughts? Oh and welcome to MV if I haven't said so before.

I named my GTV "Marcello" but my vanity plates are Mott72 LOL

I never had a name for mine until I tried to remove the gas tank.

Oh come on! You carry the macho thing too far, I think. I remember when my flight instructor asked me if I had talked to the airplane during my first solo flight. When I reluctantly admitted I had, he slapped me on the back and told me I was a "real pilot now." Every good guy in the old movies had a horse with a name. Did you ever notice that the bad guys didn't? Anyway, I've been naming my vehicles all my life. And yes, I talk to them on occasion.

I like the Badonka name and I agree with you regarding naming your scooter.
It's a much closer relationship with a vehicle than a car and deserves a name.

Having read most of what sticky frog has written here over the past couple of years, I feel confident in saying that he had to have been kidding and simply forgot the emoticon. I can't imagine him saying the 'grow a pair' comment in anything but jest.

Many people name their scoots and many others are uncomfortable with anthropomorphizing machinery. Do what feels right for you, but may i humbly suggest that you do as I try to do when something someone writes rubs me the wrong way:

if there are two ways to interpret something you read here on MV, and one makes you sad or angry... assume the author meant it the other way until faced with proof to the contrary.

Today I first read a thread about hugging your scooter and now this, naming your scooter. You people have got to stop huffing the SeaFoam.

By the way, give Penelope a thought as to a name.

First of all, Welcome to MV. Secondly, I think that you can stick with the name "Hula Girl." It is your first choice - it is what you really want to name your scooter. If you need more macho validation, you could always find some kind of "bomber art" Hawaiian beauty for decoration. It would look great on your scooter.

Wow, that's exactly what I thought too. I actually spent an hour or so checking Google results for bomber art. I like "HulaGirl" just fine, but I'm not married to it. I am married to my wife, so in deference to her I'm going with Badonka for now. And, I bet I could find some nice derrière bomber art to with it too!

had a P200E that was called sparky due to the electrics being "interesting" my LX is called pixie due to the number plate ending in PKC and the GTV is called j-lo because of its big arse....


have had various other bikes that were not named due to lack of personality...


all my fave guitars have had names.....walnut GIBSON SG called winston..(winston walnut) to a lovely IBANEZ 335 called sweetie...


current fave is a FRETKING telecaster called one-e...as its my go to guitar ..


go with your first choice as instincts are generally right in these things...

Naming your scoot is a personal thing. It's OK to take suggestion but in the end go with your gut. If you go with a tempory name now don't be surprised if it becomes permanent before you know it. I named my scooter based on incorect information. My first Vespa was my 1960 VBA. It had a sticker on it that said it was made in Genoa. I assumed that all Vespas were made there, before and since. I got the GTS and named her Angeo, an anagram for Genoa only to later learn that modern Vespas are made in Pontederno(spelling?). Ah, well. It's still Angeo.

I have a name for my VW, Klaus. I don't really have a name for the Vespa, but I call it "My Therapy". When I go riding I call it a "Therapy Session".

I am happy the OP brought this topic up. Badunka sounds hardly Vespalike as far as my tinnitus-inflicted ear is concerned as well as your very masculine-looking Sienna Ivory GTS300ie. I named my previous Vespa Iris and ended up with a tragedy. I am still looking for the perfect name. Penelope, as has been mentioned before, sounds manly.

I kinda like Badonka, though rhyming brought me to Biana, which may work too.

Of course if you go with Hula Girl you need the nose art! Here's an example:

Let's think about this for a minute.....OK, what gender is your GTV? Are you riding a male or female, or is it a newt? Most guys refer to there vehicles in either a nonsexual or female reference, yes, but nothing too "fluffy"? What cowboy sidekick named their mule Nelly-Belle? (kinda fluffy if you ask me?)

She is definitely female. But a big strong one! For those who may be uninformed, "Badonka," is from badonkadonk, which according to Merriam-Webster online means: "badonkadonk (noun) : A well shaped female buttocks." And if you've ever viewed a GTV 300 from the rear, you would know from whence came my inspiration.

Anybody guy who buys a Vespa obviously doesn't care what the macho types think and doesn't need to "grow a pair" or he wouldn't have bought the slightly girly thing in the first place!

Hula Girl would be a great name for that bike! Go for it! She's got the hips for it!

My GTS gets called Maria when we're alone together in the garage and is also known as the Yellow Bomb.

The MP3 500 is called Donkey because she handles like one and hauls a lot of stuff without complaint.

Unless he grew a pair. Any name for a scooter seems sissified to me. Hula Girl with a 40's cheesecake decal would be cool though.

I call my GTS300 "Mr Beefy" for several reasons. Firstly, when I first heard my scooter it had a "beefy" sound to the engine compared to the high pitched sound my ET2 made.

Second, "Mr Beefy" is the name of my second favorite movie dog (see avatar to the left), the first being "Frank" from Men in Black. However, at the time I had a co-worker named Frank so "Mr Beefy" it was.

I name all of my vehicles with female names. Not sure why, but it is just a thing that I do. My car is Alpha. My scoot is Bambi. I do have a set of ginormous balls which have been seemingly unaffected as a result.

Alpha is a female name? Maybe you have an alpha female in your house now?
