Hey Guys!

I just got this 1966 Sears Sprint 150 , and I have a few questions if you could help!!

1. Where can I get a key for the steering lock?

2. The Clutch needs work but I think it is a broken clutch cable. How do I get to the cable? Do I have to take off the entire steering wheel? I need some direction on this.

3. If I do have to get a cable which one??

4. I want to get some mirrors for it. What do you suggest would look the best and give me street cred.

Thanks guys!!!

www.scootermercato.com will have everything you need. It's called a "clutch cable". No you don't have to remove the "steering wheel", and don't call it that. Handlebars or headset, not steering wheel.

Mirrors? Street cred? none of the above. Mirrors on a bike that wasn't designed to have mirrors just looks strange, to me. It's not a MOD bike, so you won't get points for adding them. If you absolutely HAVE to add a mirror, get a legshield mirror that mounts down by your foot. Some people think those will damage your legshield in the case of a crash, but you have rubber legshield trim, so it will just bend away.

also, by the looks of it, your shifter looks jacked. When the bike is parked, it should be in neutral, which it probably is, but your shifter grip is twisted so much it looks like it's in 4th. Does the little dot line up with one of the numbers?

You said you were having clutch problems, it's very possible that your clutch is fine, but your shifter cables are way to loose. Pull your clutch lever, is their resistance or does the lever stay pulled back when you let go?

If there's resistance, your clutch cable is fine. If the lever doesn't appear to be attached to anything, your clutch cable is broken. If this test results in your clutch cable being fine, i would look at your selector box to check the condition of your shift cables.

www.scooterhelp.com is your new best friend.

**and your fuel tap is in the Reserve position. You should get into the habit of turning your fuel tap off when you're not running.

If you are keen on keeping the original mechanism, you should be able to get a key made using a competent lock smith. However, you can just buy a new one and install. You will need to drill through the tumbler pins on the existing lock and then remove it.

The "steering wheel" is called the headset by scooterists. No you will not have to remove it. You will, however, need to remove the headlight bucket and the speedometer to make it a simple job and see what you are working on.
Order the cable from the site I am including the links from. There are other places to order from as well. People will chime in here to give you a heads-up for the shops within your area.

If you have broken a clutch cable, you will need to replace it with a clutch cable.

http://www.scootermercato.com/Scooter-Parts/Inner-Cables/CC1

And you'll need a new pinch bolt.

Generally speaking, "street cred" cannot be had through a purchase. If you need recommendation on a type of mirror that can get the job done you will need to get info from other users than me, because I don't use mirrors.

Great looking scooter. It would be even better looking if it didn't have that black leg shield trim. Good job cracking the whip on those kids. I hope you were yelling, "CLEAN FASTER! FASTER!"

Nice looking ride!

Personally I don't worry about having a key to lock the column. I have a couple of scooters without keys.

Check under the headset and see if there are bolt holes under there. If so you can get mirroe mounting brackets.

And yeah...street cred can't be bought...only earned!

Riding it home with a broken clutch cable will earn a lot!

Also your fuel tap is on "reserve" Left is off, up is on, right is reserve. I know people that leave it on reserve....but they usually regret it....one time.

Also another way to earn "street cred" Ride with it to on...run it until it is "out of gas" shift to neutral, reach down and flip to reserve, back up to the clutch, get it in gear, dump the clutch...and keep on rolling!

Welcome
Hey Mate,
Nice scoot! I happen to like the black trim as it matches the the rest of the trim. I've thought about it for mine.
I just finished a total rebuild (currently awaiting final paint) of a '66 Sears BB, it's very similar to the Sprint 150s. Yours looks like a Piaggio Sprint 150, though. The Sears version had the Blue badge on the leg shield and came in silver only. This is not mine, but, is a nice example of a true Sears BB Sprint 150.
You'll get plenty of good advice from these mugs, as have I.
Happy Scoot'in

BTW, I didn't know slavery was still allowed in Fl? LOL!

Haha!!!

So what do I call it EXACTLY?

Is it a Piaggio Sprint 150? It's not technically a vespa? It says on the tag

gulfbreezer,

yours is a Sears "blue badge" 150. It's a 2port sprint, with a different taillight than a sprint. Yours originally had that blue sticker like the one pictured. Whoever repainted your scooter in the past, put those vespa badges on it.

It definitely IS TECHNICALLY a vespa. It just shouldn't say that it is. Wolf in sheeps clothing, of sorts.

No one cares about the badges, really, unless you want to be 100% accurate. What we really want to know is if you have an completely intact "mickey mouse" tail light, like a blue badge should.

I never really got the whole MM tail light thing. If I didn't know about their value I'd have nipped the little reflectors right off. I like the top of the light but little beans? not so much! If I ever do come to actually like 'em,(asthetically) it'll only be because I've had one too many servings of the Kool Aid. (don't worry I wouldn't mutilate or otherwise harm those little ears... rare, hard to find items are still held in high regard.)

Naaahhh it's not that bad (my disdain for said reflectors ... but now it's become a "thing" so the pic jumped out at me and those ears bit me on the nose... that's all.) I'll keep my eyes out and if I find one.. I'll put it up for all to clammer over... That is, IF I haven't had too much of the Kool Aid yet and swear I really love how nifty it looks! Razz emoticon
over and out.... (of the happiest place on earth that is) (I'm not even sure they have that sign anymore... I guess there's a happier place? OR they didn't want to dis their other theme parks?) MM tail light leads to disaster...

personally, i could care less about Mickey Mouse tail lights, to be honest. I was really just curious to see it had stayed intact. Given what people are paying for them, i'd sell the one of my blue badge (if i had one, i don't) and use that money to pay for something real, like a hotwing or a boomstick.

I like OP's avatar & added pic at the bottom, clever. I hope he changes them to the new/old scoot though.

I would also like one of those old tail lites, please.
So I could sell for big money like I did my turn US signals to a guy in Finland. They were so minty & rare too, it's sad they're so ugly . IMO.

Wait, am I off topic? Gulfbreezer, POST PIC OF YOUR TAIL LIGHT! fixed.

What do i NEED to buy???

Because you are looking to replace a shifter cable. That's what goes on that batwing. The cable on the right is a clutch cable.

Please replace BOTH if you're going to do it. Lube well & make sure the barrels rotate freely in the batwing or they'll likely break in a day or two.

You can search & find many threads on cable replacement & shifter adjustment which will make things a lot easier if you've never done it.

And yeah...street cred can't be bought...only earned!

That looks like a scooter I built. Did you get it out of the Pensacola area? My club restored that and raffled it off at our rally (Big Easy Weekender). It was won by a woman from Baton Rouge. She brought it to Amerivespa San Antonio where it won best 60's/70's restoration. She is older and couldn't cope with a vintage shifty (rides and MP3) and I bought it back from her with a little damage. I fixed it back up and sold it to a girl in Pensacola after that. Here is a link to our photo album from that build:

I know the girl in P-Cola had some trouble with broken cables and it spent some time at a shop there as well.

http://www.scooterhelp.com/ is a valuable resource and so is this site here. I am 99% sure that is our scoot so feel free to PM me and I'll give you my number and I'd be happy to talk you through anything or give you any advise needed.

That scooter was all original. Original 2 port motor. Bajaj electronic ignition(obviously not original). Mickey mouse light was missing an ear, I covered the hole with epoxy and painted it. The original winner of it had the whole scoot re-painted the same color... she didn't like our paint job I guess, there was a little orange peel on it but what the hell it was a free scooter. She may have replaced the tail light. I didn't see any pics of the rear end.

I have a ton more pics than what's on the Facebook page too. I'll try to find some time this week and put more up. Who did you get it from, did you get the plaque and the book? When I sold it to Morgan (pretty sure that was her name) I gave her the plaque we got from Amerivespa for winning best 60's/70's restoration, and a photo album of the resto.

you want one? or another one if that's the case? I may be selling mine.
Don't believe it J. Vader said he would sell me one, then he backed out of the deal.

Worked out well for me, I love my Boomstick, and at half the price.

...now back to the business at hand.
