its a 2006
very high mileage - 28000 kms
I listed it at $2550 because of the milage even thought it is in fantastic shape. Someone came to look at it today and said it needs a new rear tire. There is still a lot of tread on the tire but I agree it is worn a little. I called our local dealer and they quoted $350 to $400 to replace both tires because the potential buyer is saying that it is best to replace both tires at the same time even though the front tire is not worn at all.
Should I reduce my price to compensate for the replacement of the tires? I do feel that I have already priced this bike very low and I am reluctant to lower the price by $400.
I am probably feeling emotionally attached to my BV because I have had so much fun riding it on weekends and she is a beautiful scooter
My reasons for selling are practical. I commute daily on an Aprilia Sportcity 50 - use the flat floor to hold my case for work which sits under a thermoscud to keep dry. I am selling both bikes and buying a Vespa GTS300 which I am picking up this weekend. Thought the Vespa would be a great compromise between the 2 bikes - Flat floor, thermoscud and lighter for daily commute plus the ability to weekend tour but I will really miss having these 2 bikes.

If the front tire is not worn at all why replace it? You do not have to replace both tires at the same time. If the back tire is worn "a little" then maybe reduce the price "a little". $350 is way too much for a set of tires in my opinion. Go with your gut on this one.

Thanks for your advise - its hard to sell something that you hold in high esteem and its easy to feel insulted when someone comes along and tries to low ball you on an already fair and honest price. - thats my gut feeling I guess.
But really looking forward to getting the new vespa - just feel a bit guilty about the BV and just realizing how attached I am to the BV now I have to let her go.

Just state that the price reflects the condition of the scooter.

Did you allow a little 'wriggle room' on your asking price? If you did, reduce by that factor (maybe 100-150$?) and say it is your final price. If they like the scooter they will buy it.

Good luck with the sale.

My humble opinion says you have it priced very reasonably. That said it still comes down to what a buyer is willing to pay. If it were me I'd hold out for other offers if you've not had it for sale very long. And I would only replace one tire at a time if that is all it needs. That tire pricing seems a little steep btw.
Best of luck with the sale. It isn't the best time of year to sell...

That is not what I would consider to be high mileage for a BV500. If the front tire does not need replacing due to wear (or any other problems) then there is NO reason to replace it just because you're replacing the rear tire.

If the scooter is already priced correctly, there's no reason to drop your price further. If the buyer really wants the scooter, he's not going to let the price of a rear tire stand in the way of purchasing since there are probably NO other BV500's for sale in your area. Conversely, it's not the best time of the year to sell a scooter in most parts of North America so if think that you need to do something to juice the deal in order to make it happen, offer to knock off $100-$150 for the purchase and installation of the rear tire with the buyer picking up the rest of the cost. I mount my own tires but a new rear tire for a BV500, plus removal/installation, mounting and balancing would run around $200 in most places in the USA. Good luck with your sale.

Sounds good to me. You are the seller and it is what it is, the new owner can put a new tire on it when they want. You have nothing to be embarrassed over if you are accurately describing your machine. Just be patient.

No way you should be replacing both the front and rear on a BV at the same time. That is just nonsense. A front tire on a BV will last at least twice as long as a rear, if not more. Unless the bike has been in storage for a few years, that front tire should be good to go as is.

Knock off $100 bucks for a new rear tire but let the buyer get it replaced.

This is my point of view and only mine. You or I are selling. The price has been set. The price is fair. As far as we are concerned, the buyer is purchasing the scooter "as is". If we are going to replace and fix everything that they want, then we might as well give the scooter to them for free. I go the opposite way. If they want me to do something to the scooter, the price of the "doing" is added on to the price. There is always a buyer that will cooperate. But everyone has to decide for themselves. Good luck to you.

This is the Bike I'm selling
I really think that I have priced the bike quite low taking into consideration the season and mileage. Thanks for everyone's advise. I am now confident that I should hold my price - she even has heated grips and a brand new battery
(Thats my Aprilia Sportcity behind)

There's plenty of life left on that motor...I think you priced it well...a little low if anything for a BV500. In SF, a BV250 with a ~3000-5000 miles fetches about $3500 US.

No need to change both tires...you're selling it anyway. They don't even wear evenly. They just want to charge you for two tires.

28,000kms is nothing, it's just broken in.
I have 61,000kms on my MP3 500 and it runs like new.

I would say price is "As Is"

Now, about the flat floor on the GTS. Mine doesn't have a flat floor . (but, yes, the GTS300 will be a great compromise)

Sold - I'll give you $2550 for it right now! Will you take a cashier's check?

Seriously though - that is very reasonable for the bike in it's current state and the time of year we are in. Maybe go down $100 or offer to replace the tires for $200 more in price and see where they land. Ideally, if you are not in a hurry, wait until May to sell or take a little trip south to visit beautiful Seattle...

Thanks for all your posts
Its great to hear from people who appreciate what this scooter is all about. I will hold my price.
Here is a picture of one of our rides this summer. We came across a wedding and they asked to use the bike as a photo op.

I agree with Chris, price reflects the condition. There is no reason to change both tires at the same time particularly since I tend to get at least twice as many miles out of my front tire as my rear with one exception and that was the stock Savas (or whatever that S brand is) where the front tire cupped badly so I swopped it out after only another 1,000 miles. Probably wasn't necessary but the ride improved significantly so I don't regret it. Oh, and that price seems awfully high to me. I swapped both tires on my Scarabeo 500 (same as your BV) for less than $240 including labor.
