Hi,

I live in Cambridge, MA, and was unfortunately hit by a car while riding my 2001 ET2. The Vespa had very few miles, 2-3000 I believe, but the body damage to the front of the bike was pretty extensive and totaled the whole vehicle.

Vespa of Boston is currently storing the damaged bike and told me that the ET2 has a desirable engine, because it allows the bike to travel near 40mph while maintaining it's status as a moped because it's 50cc.

They offered to remove the engine and electronics for $100. Is there any chance I'd be able to resell those? Quickly looking at ebay, there's one for sale for $450 with no bids. Are there other parts that a buyer might want like the carburetor?

Thanks,

Ben

It's pretty easy to drop the engine....about a 1/2 hour with a skilled mechanic and proper tools....
If you have any skills, you can do that, and take other parts off the scoot...
If you have to get the dealer to do it, it's not worth it....
You have three choices, how much does the dealer will give you, or how much a private party, or a used parts dealer will give you, and how much the insurance company you have to buy it back???? if you had insurance....
Put it on here, and name a price or best offer....
People always need a parts scoot.....
2 stroke piggie engines are valuable, in the states, because there are not a lot of them! but remember, nice undamaged running ET2's are going for $1200 to $1600 in the North this time of year....and the guy on E-bay, did he sell it for that much yet???
Hope you weren't hurt, that is the important thing!

I agree with that. It depends how much work you wanna put into it. I would strip it down and get the engine too. I bought my previous GTS back from the inusrance company for $5.
