Thanks LM15. It arrived yesterday. Scratches are not nearly as bad as I thought they might me. It is sitting in the garage on end to see if anymore oil will come out though I am sure any oil left in will burn out quickly.

I will install tomorrow and let you know how it goes. May lightly sand the damaged area plus the decal.

Oh forgot to ask. Ok to install without a catalytic converter right?

There is no catcon unless AK provides a slip in. You'd notice the weight if there was...

Oh - and a little advice. I made a mistake with the 2 Bros can I got from Shawn which is constructed similar to the AK. Anyway - I tightened it down too tight on the header. You need to get it tight but still allow slippage - that's the real reason that bushing is in there and it is made of graphite - it NEEDS to slip because of the action of the swingarm. I tightened mine too tight and eventually it ripped the rivets right out of the fiberglass. I don't think you'd notice with the stock or a welded can like my Gianelli.

Thanks for the tip BubbaJon. Did yours install like this?

Yeah the instructions show a cat but I am thinking it is not necessary. I just read an older thread on it and it seems the cat is a separate part so I assume not necessary.

That looks bizarre John. I'm guessing that cone is an adapter and it appears that springs hold it in place on the can? No idea why 2 clamps - does it still use the bushing?
Cans like the AK usually give the catcon as an option - an unnecessary expense for you.

My old Yamaha DT250 (Late 70's) had that set up on the exhaust at the head and at the muffler, it was great and never had a problem with it.

Nope no bushing. I am guessing the the torque value for the clamp is such the cone is snug on the header pipe but can still move. The springs keep everything snug. There is also only one bolt that holds the can on using an adapter for the upper strap securing point. Makes this thing very easy on and off.

The cat is a seperate item. I am on my third AK now and haven't used one. As for installation, I followed the enclosed instructions to include the torque settings.

By the way I still have the orginal, but it has a crease on the outside of the can.

Sticky, your picture looks correct.

That's exactly how mine went on. The collar that the springs are connected to are snug but not clamped down. It just basically holds onto the can.

And yes, the cat is just an optional piece.

Not sure if you are planning to take out the sound dampeners, but one word of advice, be careful with the screws, especially if you decide to take them out after you've already mounted. Unless you have a magnetic tool, the nut easily falls out and ends up rattling around in the can.

I love my AK!

Thanks for the tip on the sound dampeners. I will probably leave them in for now.

Decided to install tonight. So fricken easy. But it did smoke like hell. Damn it LM15 you could have dragged that broken leg across the pavement to hit the kill switch a little bit faster.

Took it on a 6 mile run and the smoke is very diminished. Love the sound. May play with the sound dampeners. Don't want to be too loud but maybe a little more. What have others done?

Kind of crappy video. Not sure what is going on with my phone. But after about 30 miles it has mostly stopped smoking. A little on the lower end of the can. I think some oil may have gotten between the outer sheath and the inner. Very happy with it even without the decal. So easy to install.
