Hi all,


Can you please help me out. I have changed the starter relay which didn't help. Brake Light still doesn't work and the starter still does not activate. What would be by next step in trouble shooting?

Since both the starter and light are effected, I'd suspect the problem to be in the lever switch or wire from the lever. Maybe a short or loose connection.

Welcome to the forum. It's probably the switch. You will have to disassemble the headset to access it. Be careful that you don't break the plastic parts. You may be able to take the switch apart, clean and reassemble it.

First, try the other brake lever to see if that lights up the brake lights and enables starting.

If not, it's still most likely that both brake light switches are dirty - many people don't notice the front brake light switch doesn't work until the rear one pegs out...

They are cheap and easy to replace - and even cheaper to just clean. A very, very common 'problem'.

Agree with all this except the bit about cleaning them! I managed in the end but takes a lot of forcing to open it up and clean properly. You can end up damaging it in the end.

Much better to get a couple of the switches and change them - easy job.

They're $10 each. Buy two so you have one for a spare.

I reread my answer and I should have been more clear. I, too meant the brake light switch.

The switch screws on and off. I've learned that from experience. They are extremely fragille and break easily. I would just buy a new pair instead of cleaning it. I tried to clean the turning signal switch once by opening it up and it is a RPITA to put it back together again with the spring and bearing in the right place. The brake switch might be easier.
