Does Piaggio still manufacture any scooter with a progressive transmission and an operable clutch, and if they do, are they sold in the USA?

Simple answer is no, but there are still a few brand new PX models around that show up from time to time. Alternatives are new 'Stella' scooters, which are made to the same Piaggio design in India. This is a complicated story, but it is basically a once Piaggio licensed scooter that has gone its own way and now includes 4 stoke models. They are well regarded by many, nearly as well as Vespa.
Another option is to look here Deal o' the Day and here http://scoot.net/classifieds/?cat=scootersforsale for a used one in good condition. Opinion is that the BEST used ones are easier to find in the US because so many weren't primary transportation and generally have much lower mileage. Sounds like maybe you got a chance to ride one? Understand. |

This page http://www.uk.vespa.com/#/vespa/UK/uk/Model/Vespa-PX/Vespa-PX-150 on the UK Vespa page suggests that the PX has been re-introduced. But then, the page references 2011 so have they stopped again?

Vespa brought back the PX 150/125 in 2011 and continues to promote it on their various national web sites. It is an update (for emissions standards) of the same PX150 that was produced through 2007 (last sold as a 2005 in the US).
Sales in Europe appear to be sufficient to keep it in the product mix as long as it can meet emissions limits. It is a four speed manual transmission with manual clutch. I would seriously doubt it will be available in the US, as 1) it's a two stroke and 2) it took a few years to sell all the model year 2005 PX150s that were imported to the US. ⚠️ Last edited by Aviator47 on UTC; edited 1 time

The Vespa LX 150 sounds just like what I want except that new two cycle engines are not sold in California and I doubt they could be bought outside of the state and then be registered in California.

You meant the PX 150? If you really want a like new*, California legal manual shift 2 stroke, I highly recommend you visit Bar Italia. You won't believe how much like Factory New their work is and one of their more modern autolube, turn signaled 200cc P models would be little more than that LX 150 that you DON'T want. In fact they have many models available to setup exactly the way you want. Some more money & some less. Try that with a new one. Look here http://www.baritaliaclassics.com/Site/Home.html *I think possibly better than new, based on what their customers say. ![]() Or look at this one with 4 1/2 miles on it for $2800 + $500 shipping if you don't like preowned or can't wait a bit. NOS 1980 Vespa P125x . Looks OK, but it's the internet. |

I just bought this one off of EBay. It is a 2005 Px150 straight out of the crate with 0 miles on it. It will be delivered on Tuesday - note, this picture is taken by the shipper, it is on his trailer ready for delivery (delivery was slightly delayed by Hurricane Sandy). Apparently it is one of the models mentioned above that did not sell because the American market wants autos, but I am really excited to get a carbureted 2-stroke manual grip shift with a foot brake. Good luck in you search, and wish me luck that this one turns out as good as expected!

I got the PX last night! Today I got it up and running. Below are pictures of the Vespa on the trailer before delivery, coming off the trailer at delivery last night, and the odometer at 1.8 miles, as in straight from Italy 7 years later. I spoke to the eBay seller a few times today and he told me he has 2 more just like mine and he said I could pass on his contact info, so if anyone is interested, PM me and I will put you guys in touch.
I may be posting again soon with questions, I feel like I have the automatic fuel injected Vespas figured out, but it may take me a while to figure out a two stroke carbureted manual! ![]() ![]() ![]() |
