Hi, All:
Do any of you folks carry AAA coverage on your scooters? If so, how does
their service rate? What has your experience been with them?

AAA covers my cars and I'm very satisfied with them but my understanding is that they don't provide road service for scooters, at least in New York. I have tow coverage with Progressive as an add on to my insurance. The one time I needed service, they took two days to pick up my bike and bring it to the shop but I didn't raise a stink given that the bike was at my house, not stuck on the road.

I had AAA in California for 10
Years and AAA Mid-Atlantic for 12 years. I was very surprised to find they do not cover motorcycles. I ended up with a different insurance for just the bike. |

In the 30+ years I have had AAA, (in CA and CO), they have picked up my scooter on several breakdown occations. I carry the RV coverage which they claim stands for "recreational vehicles".
They consider scooters/motocycles RV's. It cost more than regular AAA but it is worth it to me to have that 200 mile tow when i'm out in the middle of nowhere. |

AAA.....
......has picked up my scooter and hauled it home 3 times for me, in the last 7 years. Years ago they even brought me gas for my P200E. Wouldn't leave home without them (& a cell phone).

I have Progressive through USAA and have towing added on. I had to use it when I blew my belt on a Sunday evening. The truck was there within an hour. They towed it to my apartment as no place was open. Then they towed it 40 miles to where I bought it by my request rather than the closer dealership.
Adding towing to my insurance for all 3 vehicles was less than AAA. |

RVPLUS covers road service for scooters and motorcycles. Some regional AAA clubs do not currently offer RV coverage like Auto Club of New York and AAA North Jersey yet. Check your local AAA Club.

I have some kind of roadside service with my car insurance, but I go with AAA anyway and pay extra for the Motorcycle/RV coverage offered in California. I've certainly used them before and just think they're the gold standard for someone showing up with a truck when you get in a scrape.

I once had AAA RV/Motorcycle roadside coverage and, the one time I had to use it, they did a great job.
Unfortunately, The coverage varies in different areas. They insisted I had to pay for separate coverage for every licensed driver in the house...four at the time...which made their price far from competitive. I have my roadside coverage with Geico these days. |

I have AMA (American Motorcyclist Association). It's lower cost, and it's got, IMHO, better coverage.

I tried AAA for my scooter and they rejected my full coverage and wanted to write it off only for liability by a AAA insurance carrier ACA. I ditched them for Geico. Does the AAA premium cover Scooter and MC tows? They did tow my GTS 136 miles home. Anyone have trouble using the tow service through AMA? Had accidents with my MP3 500 and Harley and Geico came through.

Just do it!
I've had the full-meal-deal RV package coverage for years but only for roadside assistance, not insurance. It's been one of the few great deals for me, they've towed my cars, bikes, RV's, brought me gas, jump-started my dead batteries, even unlocked my SUV when it was sitting in my driveway and I'd got out leaving my keys inside. For what they charge it's got to be one of the best deals going, better service than any of the auto insurance policies will provide. I'd say do it.

I've got AAA RV coverage and it has been worth every penny. First use was when the fuel pump went out on the Scarabeo (I didn't know the fuel pump issue affected the 500cc scoots before then, thought it was just the 250s). Second and third time were the tire shredded on the other Beo coming back from DC. First to get me to a hotel for the night then on Monday morning to a m/c shop for a new tire. That time Piaggio roadside was available but they only cover a max of $100 and wanted to tow it to the dealership I bought the scoot from - in Austin almost 500 miles away which would have left me with over $600 in costs above what Piaggio would reimburse.
We've also had them come out and swap a dead battery on the car which was under the wheel well (what was Chrysler thinking?) Their battery service does it for the cost of the replacement battery if you prefer that to a jump start. I've been pleased with AAA and hope I don't need to call them again anytime soon. |
