At the risk of repetition I'd like to ask everyone's opinion of suitable oil for a GT200 based in Sydney. From the owners manual Vespa recommend 5w40 synthetic. However after visiting several scooter shops in Sydney the consensus of opinion was that a more suitable oil for the Sydney climate was either 10w40 or 15w50 synthetic. Apparently the main reason piaggio recommend 5w40 is the lower Italian winter temperatures. This sounded odd to me but I'm ignorant so thought to ask the wisdom of the MV community - what say you ?
If all you can readily get is the 10W/40, then that'll be fine if it rarely dips below freezing. Many shops here in the southern part of the UK use that, and I've never heard of an engine that's suffered as a result.
Many thanks Jim - it never freezes here in Sydney so your recommendation of 10W40 should be fine - the hail storms, red dust clouds and summer storms are a different matter though !
