in posting a response to Shanghai Dans off i asked this question, and then thought it worth a separate post.
if you had a get off of anysort, i would be interested to know and also curious how you are healing up?
Seems a lot of us in this forum has wrecked this season.

I did last February. Went down in a left turn on some diesel. Gear protected me for the most part but I did take a hard hit on the upper left thigh that resulted in a hematoma and ultimately surgery to remove. After a month or two of healing I was back at 100 percent physically took a little longer to get over it mentally but eventually I did.

I fell off on my own at a stop sign, if that counts. Took the brunt of the fall on the outside of my right knee, but the worse bruise was on the inside of my left calf. This was several weeks ago and the bruises are gone but it still feels a bit tender when I press on it. I now have knee guards, which I didn't have at the time.

I still don't know why I just fell over. I'm beginning to wonder if I had a brain cramp and simply forgot to put my right foot down.

I wiped out on my MP3 going down the Diamondback (NC 226A) at the Spring Gathering. And I laid my Ninja down coming to a stop too quick in the church parking lot last month. Stupid blind driveways exiting onto main roads...

I believe there was another wipeout at the Spring Gathering, too.

I'm getting too old to fall off my scooter. Been there, done that. I'm making every effort to ride my age, and stay up on two wheels. But this thread is a great reminder for me. Thanks!

I just had one - d*mn squid Harley riders! Three days later, only thing is the top of the left foot is still bruised and a bit tender, but the ribs and neck are fine, scrape on the right knee is almost gone, and the small friction burn on the left forearm is about 4 days away from completely disappearing.

On the plus side, Progressive Insurance has been GREAT! Already have a check for full NEW value of the wasted gear: boots, pants, knee pads, jacket, and helmet. And the scoot's already a Ducati of Santa Barbara, getting rebuilt...

I sure did...earlier this year crossing the Coronado bridge. Hit a stopped SUV and fell into the middle lane (on the bridge). Was very lucky that I didn't suffer serious injuries, but ended up totalling the MP3 250

A rider known as Blue was rear ended earlier this year.
Totaled his scoot and broke his leg.
He is not riding anymore, so I posted on his behalf.

Maybe we should start a list of those who have NOT had an off this year lest this be too depressing. I would be on that list but have only been riding this 3-wheeled beauty for 2 weeks.

Add me to this year's list. Crashed my MP3 on US 41 in the Everglades in late August and broke both bones in my right leg above the ankle.

A titanium rod was put in and I am now walking with out any aid.

MP3 is back up and fixed as good or better than new. Much credit goes the the folks at Vespa Ft. Lauderdale.

Several of its parts live on with other forum members.

I started riding it again this past Saturday, and as the old Gene Autry (not Aerosmith) song goes, "I'm back in the saddle again".

Dropped it at the spring gathering, while backing up on slanted pavement , did a hard face plant, thanks to a full face helmet no harm done. Also went off into bar ditch on curve at spring gathering. No harm done either time. Knock on wood.

Since I purchased it 8 months ago, I've put 12,000 miles on the HoneyBadger. I have been living on it all summer with no accidents to report... (knock on wood too).

I was fortunate to have a BAD scare in my first two weeks. I just barely missed getting clipped by a car jumping from lane 2 (stopped traffic) into my lane 1 (wide open,) at 45 mph. He missed my exhaust by 10 inches, and I was already up against a curb to my left. I was so rattled I parked for about an hour.
I drive assertively, but paranoid. Reading Shanghai Dan's tale, I'll be looking into more hard armor for the lower body. Textile riding pants with standard knee guards won't be enough in a pinch...

Be safe everybody,

Steve H/B

I got hit from behind last Thursday morning on my way to work. I had just about come to a halt behind traffic filter by an accident when a cager impacted the back of my MP3. This occurred on a normally higher speed stretch of road coming up over a hill and the "other guy" told the police he had glanced down for just a second before looking up to see we (me and the half-mile of traffic in front of me) had stopped. He hit the brakes, swerved, and just clipped the back of the bike. The bike was taken out from under me almost surgically and I dropped somewhat forcefully to the ground. Fortuitously, there was a Marine unit camped out right next to my wreck site (I live and work on a Marine base) and some Navy Corpsmen were on me in about 30 seconds ready to offer medical assistance if necessary. My only real injury besides general stiffness in my back and neck is a growing bruise on my left buttock which my wife finds amusing now that she has had time to be thankful it wasn't worse.

The bike is going to be totaled (I hope) by the adjuster in the next day or two. It looks like the body and frame are no longer in alignment and the swing arm that holds the engine and back wheel has definitely been pushed up and in by the impact. I don't want them to try and fix it because it scares me that it might be unstable at speed, which was the consensus opinion on the thread that I started on the incident last week:

MP3 hit from behind this morning

Besides the morbid fascination with reading about other folks' accidents, my real question that pops to my mind is what does this level of "offs" indicate? Are we all a bunch of either klutzy or unlucky folks that ride MP3? Is this typical to motorcycles in general? Or does it just seem more prevalent because only those that have had accidents are posting?

Well trirol let me out of the bag.
i had a checkup today at JPS hospital ...
said everything was healing and i need another 6 weeks for my right shoulder to heal
i cant much use my right arm. mostly it lays beside me like a dead fish at night.
but in rehab they are making me pick up pegs and move them across a table to add to a pile. then the next day the pile gets put back in the holes.
most times i have to use my left arm to move my right.
one day i did two rows of pegs without the left arm helping. but it really tired out my right arm.
i know it is helping ... slowly.
also recently had bruising on my left ankle, so now wearing a boot.
very uncomfortable at night, or when transfering from bed to wheel chair.

ok scoot has been seen by adjuster.
helmet and ridng jacket needs to be replaced.
i am sure Mike is repairing my scoot to run
better than before.
at vespa dallas.
i am just itching to get back on the road. and rehab food isnt the best!

So, if I counted correctly that would be 13 of us, not counting just falling over with no harm done.
Maybe I am wrong but it seems more for one season than usual.

For the most part, i would not attribute the accidents to the riders, just bad luck.

these are just the folks who are openly admitting to having a bump in the road of riding and just on this MP3 area. There have been plenty of posts on the subject in the general discussion area and not so modern area as well.

Stuff happens, riders have to be constantly aware and riding defensively. There is not time to slack off. As soon as one takes a little for granted thats when things happen.

This thread is a good reminder to all to be on your toes.

French video that says that we are often , in cities very cautious , but unfortunately not enough ,in ride on country roads.

at the end of the video there write.

"à moto , le plus grand danger , c'est de penser qu'il n'y en a pas ."

motorcycle, the greatest danger is to think that there is not.

Amen to that. It has saved my ass about three times in the last three months.

I used to describe it as treating every driver as if they were intentionally trying to kill me, though of course they aren't. But having begun reading More Proficient Motorcycling recently, I think Hough protrays it better. he talks about his Air Force pilot friend who views the ride as a mission. In his view, you treat everyone as a potential bogie until they have proven otherwise, just as you would on a flight mission.

I fully agree - everything is a threat unless proven otherwise.

Of course, when that threat manifests itself about 2 seconds before you'd head-on into it IN YOUR OWN LANE, there's not much you can do...

RowdyC texted me last night saying that apparently Robert the service manager at Vespa Dallas who rides a 500 was hit by a car turning while he was going on the opposite direction. His scooter hit the car and he went airborne - not quite full gear -- helmet, jacket, gloves but wearing shorts - legs are messed up bad...

man!

no new inventory and we are making sure these things become even rarer - be very careful out there!

Maybe on the Kymco(2 wheels) you only had to put 1 foot down when you stop. On the MP3 you have to put both feet down when you stop, normally. The front end is a lot heavier, wider than 1 wheel. Going thru corners that's a +.

I must admit that I have had more "moments" on the MP3 in the past couple of weeks than I remember having the entire year I rode the Kymco. Co-inky-dink?
Maybe on the Kymco(2 wheels) you only had to put 1 foot down when you stop. On the MP3 you have to put both feet down when you stop, normally. The front end is a lot heavier, wider than 1 wheel. Going thru corners that's a +.
These were moments caused by other drivers. Pulling out in front of me, changing into my lane, etc.

LoL ... your day will come ... then we want to hear about it.
