How about this response. The first person to go to such a titled thread respond with, "That's a pretty uninformative, misleading, or otherwise sucky title and I am not going to respond to the question/statement. And I suggest that all subsequent visitors to the thread do the same." Then wait for the OP to change the title or go away.

When I go to "Train Wreck" I damned well want to see a train wreck.*

Or am I just being too gratuitously grumpy?

Why not just ignore it altogether? As Arno himself said in the increasingly-irrelevant OP:

I would amend that to say "nobody can possibly read every thread". There are plenty of threads that tell you exactly what's inside them. My suggestion is to stick to those, and let the vaguely-titled threads die the ignominious death they deserve, quickly falling off the main page when nobody answers.

Responding to those threads just prolongs the suffering.
