This reminds me of when Mothers Cookies and Archway Brand filed for bankruptcy about 4 years ago. Hopefully there will be a buyer that brings back the Hostess brand.

not a healthy choice or a good product since the 70's, I just had some Mexican twinkys and they were just like the old one's of yesteryear. sad thing is the loss of 18000 jobs.. well I guess we can look forward to lead fill snack cake on the shelf from China soon

But until that happens, if it even does, I am in deep mourning for those chocolate cupcakes. I do not have them often, but I can be blackmailed to do damn near anything for one of them.

I'm surprised Bimbo Bakeries hasn't stepped up to the plate to purchase the Twinkie brand. They own the local Orowheat bakery. I see lots of Entemmans and Thomas' bread trucks around.

Hey folks, let's stick to the subject of Twinkies (or lack thereof) and not get into the discussion of unions, taxes, economy, and so on. Once we get into those areas, the topic has nowhere to go but down.

Reading the OP, I couldn't help but hear this song in my head:

Oh wait...not that Ding Dong?

Just one optimistic note: if you can find and stash a good supply of Twinkies, Ding Dongs or Sno Balls, they have an expected shelf life of approximately 4,000 years. As George Burns once said, "At my age, I need all the preservatives I can get."

I never took to twinkies but I am a serious cupcake consumer.
If anyone wants one of the last boxes (24 count hostess cupcakes) I've got one on ebay for 100.

you know, it's actually the chocodiles and the powdered / chocolate donettes that make me the saddest, more than the twinkies. that said, twinkies are awesome and I will miss them as well.

Our town has had a Hostess bakery. It is was one of the "cake" bakeries where twinkies were manufactured, so the town would smell like sweet cakes and donuts from time to time, a really pleasant smell as far as factory odors go.

Hopefully someone will pick up rights to the Hostess brand items. For many of us, these goodies are like old friends. They bring back fond memories of that "special snack" from mom or a little self indulgence after a hard day at work. Sad to see them gone.

AND we are back to twinikies again

I'm not sure that Twinkies are gone for good. The strikers did not seem to be upset that the company folded. They thought that someone would buy the facilities and continue. Whether the product would be unchanged remains to be seen.

Twinkies, along with everything else, have gotten smaller and less tasty over the years.

Remember Spy Magazine back in the '80's? They published an article about their attempt to make Twinkies at home. I remember it not going well and that a main ingredient was suet. As in...suet. That is all.

I have never had a Twinkie. Yes I have lived in America my whole life. No, I have not lived under a rock, I did have a sheltered childhood, but was allowed to have sweets. I dunno why I never tried one, just not appealing.

I will, however, greatly miss Sno-balls. Those were the best processed baked good ever.

Now I'll have to go on the internets and order a boat load of Tastee Cakes.

I picked up two twinkles tonight and gave my wife one, in case we never get another chance to have a Twinkie.

I have not had one in like 30 years (really, 30 years, am an old fart). It was godawful, but I sure remember loving them as a kid!

The wife did not finish hers.

I've eaten 1 Twinkie and I was still buzzing off my tits a week later.

In college I survided 12 hour sessions in front of a computer terminal by eating twinkies.

I hadn't had a twinkie since 1990 so I picked up 2 packages from a local 7-11 yesterday. They had expired by a week and tasted mediocre, not like I remembered them.

The best twinkie I ever ate was back in 1973. My second grade class went to the Hostess Bakery in Salt Lake City for a factory tour. We each got a twinkie fresh off the bakery line. I was still warm and wonderful!

I think however I will miss the chocolate cupcakes and the Dolly Madison Zingers the most.
