Hey folks, let's stick to the subject of Twinkies (or lack thereof) and not get into the discussion of unions, taxes, economy, and so on. Once we get into those areas, the topic has nowhere to go but down.

The recipe at the link sounds delicious and like the original one. The news article in the paper reported on how the recipe changed over the years to include over 40 ingredients. Among them; "polysorbate 60. The petroleum-based egg yolk substitute includes a toxic gas used to thicken paint and rocket fuel. Also, artificial butter flavor, high-fructose corn syrup, calcium sulfate, and sodium steroyl lactylate."

While I've never been a huge fan of Twinkies, I do have memories of them..
To officially join the drama/tech theatre club in 11th grade, I had to go through initiation along with the other new recruits. We were to decorate the wrapper of a Twinkie with a Sharpie, have the drama teacher sign it, and declare it our "spirit Twinkie." For 2 weeks straight, any teacher or member of the club could approach us at any given time, and demand to see the spirit Twinkie. If we still had it by the end of 2 weeks, intact, we could move on. Mine was slightly smooshed at that point, but seemed to be in better shape than most. I put my foot down once it reached the hazing bit, though. I absolutely refused to dance like Pee Wee to the Tequila song. Not happening. They let me in anyway. 8) |

Hey, I was a techie. I'm a behind-the-scenes kinda person.
But to this day, Twinkies make me think of drama club, lol. |

Theory goes the owners and the bakers union are now going into mediation. So, who knows. Maybe it'll be solved.

^^^^^ I tried a Zinger on my drive to Boston last week. It was okay, but the cake was a little too heavy/dense. Not a Twinkie, but close. I'll have to try a Little Debbie Cloud Cake sometime.
