I have a question about my addition to my stable. I posted in the project reports but I was told this may be a better place to post this question. I have a stock 1952 wide-body Allstate. My boyfriend and I have just got it running, cracked the case, rebuilt carb, new cables, new tires, new gaskets and seals... After the first few failed attempts we did get spark. Had to send flywheel off to be re-magnatized also. So now that it starts and blows the lovely smell of two stroke exhaust (mixed at 5%) we have discovered that there must either still be a air leak somewhere or something.... It idles at an very high rate and no matter how much we try to adjust the idle it won't stop idling high or just dying if the idle is turned down at all...
A little history about it. Found it out in rural WA. The owner wanted to sell it with other scoots and did not want to break up the group but I convinced him otherwise. I purchased it knowing it would be a simple bike to work on yet hard to find parts or people that really know much about this particular scoot. I like weird and unusual so this was right up my alley. The original owner was wanting to make sure it went to someone that would appreciate it and not just part it out or let it sit like he did. Discovered the headlamp reflective part is brass, the lug nuts are brass and the gas tank was cleaner than most of the vintage bikes that are running currently. Below are a few pictures of it. The last one is my favorite way I like to park it and it makes it nice to work on the engine too!
