Hello.... I noticed some small puddles on my garage floor -- a red-colored fluid... seems to be dripping on both sides, but more on the LHS...

I can't seem to figure out if this is brake fluid, mix oil, lubrification oil, etc...

any help will be much appreciated....

thanks!

leaking 2 stroke oil perhaps? I believe some vendors sell a red 2 stroke oil. Where is it leaking, from the engine, or from the frame of the scooter? It could also be break fluid. Check your reservoir and see what color it is, also check your 2stroke oil and see what color it is.

thank you for the reply... sadly, i am not the smartest mechanic in town... but, i can tell you the fluid drips mainly off the muffler on the LHS, and somewhat off the heavy-silver metal portion which on the RHS...

i'll try to find pix

thanks!!!!!!!!

Mate, if you can't figure out where to look at the 2 stroke or break fluid, you probably shouldn't be riding a Vespa. Seriously, take 5 minutes to do some research. You are riding a bike that is going to require wrenching on to keep it properly running.

Sounds like 2 stroke oil. Look at the oil sight glass next to the choke lever and see if it's the same red colour. Maybe your oil hose is loose.

I thought he was having a lend of us but incredible as it may seem he may not actually realise the heavy-silver metal portion on the RHS is the engine.

This level of ignorance was reinforced yesterday when I stopped to help a woman stopped in traffic with a flat tyre. She had 2 screaming anklebiters on board and was obviously distressed. Said she was waiting for NRMA Road Service because she had no idea how to change the wheel and besides, there was no spare. It was a Gen II Honda CRV and she genuinely had no idea the big round Honda cover on the rear door was the spare.

So, to the OP I say check you haven't cracked the oil sight glass with the heel of your shoe. It's the small acrylic window close to the fuel petcock. If it is cracked and showing white get it changed or else you'll wreck the motor.

If you are taking the piss you just sucked me in so, well done

The 2T oil you've been adding to your gas or putting into a separate tank, is it green, blue or perhaps RED?

What model you have pics will us help identify your metal lump(s).

Wonder what'll be going through the OP's mind when (if) he reads the replies to his post?

Twatwaffles would be appropriate.

The OP asked a reasonable question. Believe or not, there have been hundreds of thousands of shifty Vespa owners who are not interested in receiving the admiration of smart ass wrench turners.

nc-

Red is probably 2T oil. There are a variety of problems that could result in such a leak. The oil tank, feed hose, carb gasket or air box gasket. If you are reasonably handy with handtools, then get your hands on a Haynes manual for the PX and take a look at the items I mentioned. As is the case with most fluid leaks, very often the visible location of the fluid may not readily identify the leak site itself. Gonna have to look at the system elements.

Good hunting and feel free to yell for pointers.

Agreed, but get a thick skin & please come back to post those pics you promised! (We luv pics of crusty Vespas, so don't be shy )

By your own descriptions I gather you know that we often waste a lot of time here with foolishness. But post your pics, describe ANY problem you're having & these guys WILL help get you sorted. Ask me how I know.
