Burger & a beer in a local pub...🍺

I'm early for a first date at a hamburger joint called Bogey's. I'm having a bacon cheeseburger, onion rings and from thier menu of 101 different shakes I'm having one blueberry cheesecake. We'llsee what my date has.

Not liver and onions! ...mein gott, my stomach still turns every time I read that heading. Anyway...

Simple pasta pecorino with anchovies, weird radish salad thingy with olive oil dressing, Macedonian Merlot...while (re, for the third time) watching the first season of Rome.

Spill the beans already. Was it a good date?!?!?!

The 'liver & onions' thread has gotten me in the mood for some. However, I'll need a trip to the butcher as the local grocery store doesn't have calves' liver readely available.....

Her indoors is preparing a pasta treat. I hesitate to call it spag bol as it'll be some pasta shape of some description and the sauce will bear no resemblance to Bolognese sauce. Whatever, it'll be home made and tasty. Smashing.

It seemed to go very well. We talked for over two hours and we're planning to go to a movie tomorrow.

Ok, but next time: you can't order before they arrive and no onions!

Also, I don't know if you already know this, but the two most important date movie concepts are:

a) Mirror neurons

b) Pheromones

These work in tandem with avoiding onions.

Since I was early I had time to look at the menu and decide but i did not order until she got there. As for onions, besides the rings I'll have extras on the burger, please.

Costco had a great deal on Choice New York whole loins. I got one, took it out of the package and let it age for about a month. We had a couple of inch thick steaks, cooked on this square pan my partner got me that has ridges to make grill marks and I rarely use. I used olive oil, got the pan very hot and added half a pound of white mushrooms to cook alongside the steaks, and after removing the steaks from the heat, added a bit of worchestershire sauce and dijon to the mushrooms.

Aloo gobi. Cauliflower and potato curry for those of you not familiar with Indian. Our son taught us how to make it a few years ago, and it has become a regular in the supper rotation.

it's gonna be weird pasta tonight. I've got some random elements in the fridge that I need to use up before I go away on Saturday. So we're looking at a mushroom paté - beef - pomegranate - roast pepper sauce over assorted pasta shapes (i.e. the dog-ends of five different bags of pasta that are sitting in the pantry). possibly with a salted caramel yoghourt sauce.

I made a nice Roast Goose for family dinner Friday night, and afterwards prepared a nice pot-p.i.e. out of the leftover goose (with mixed vegetables and lots of yummy goose fat).

That's what's for dinner tonight! [~drool~]

Any updates

It's the same old story. I thought things got off to a good start but apparently not. I started getting messages like "It's not you. It's me.". Oh, well.

This literally just happened to me yesterday...

Keep your chin up, Matthew, she's out there. Try joining a book club or some social group of people who share similar interests. If you feel strongly about politics, maybe volunteer for a local candidate or political action committee. Starting off with something you both enjoy (or feel strongly about) can make those early conversations less awkward.

Oh, and always remember... women actually want to be swept off their feet. It's when you try to put them in your trunk that they usually freak out.

Seriously, don't put too much pressure on yourself... but also don't discount the value of letting close friends know you are 'looking'. I met my wife of 25 years (so far so good) via a friend (actually a girl a dated but it didn't work out) who set us up.

I'm a firm believer that good things come to good people. Given what I know about you, there must be a princess out there looking for you!

Fleece, I know of one but my buddy got to her before we even met.

Trepp, great advice as always. Who would expect anything else? I'm already on top of most of it. Anyone that knows me knows I'm looking. I won't get discouraged or give up.

They ought to have a singles event at Amerivespa. I'm happily married but do wish my partner enjoyed Vespas too (not that I'm looking to switch!)

Delicious tasty pasta with sauce made last night and left alone to develop its flavour: roasted and peeled green pepper, onion, lean ground beef, tomatoes and green olives. Seasoning is simple but effective: an organic beef stock cube and a dash of shichimi togarashi - a Japanese spice mix that is great in pasta sauce

Wedge salad with crab meat and chicken noodle soup.

Knockwursts with German egg noodles, rotkohl and apfel sauce... Yum!
May enjoy a scotch later tonight....

Tonight we were mostly having - Haddock & Chips from probably the best chippie in West London.

Liberal doses of Guinness and Jameson followed by leftover Indian food and pizza.

The Lutheran Church that houses my Boy Scout troop had a hamburger dinner fund-raiser tonight. Had a burger with all the trimmings, potato chips*, brownies with walnuts and iced tea - all for $3.00!

*crisps (for those fine folks to the east)

And, y'know what...based on my four days in London late last year. they do crisps at least a tad better than we Yanks do at out best. Blew my mind.

Well it wasn't really dinner, but more of a late lunch...

Visited with Jason today at The Motorcycle Shop to talk about his participation/sponsorship of a potential Texas scooter fest. While chatting, his son brought him a take-out lunch from a little Mexican restaurant three doors down in the same strip center. It smelled gooooood so I bopped on over when done.

Grilled pork chop, cheese enchilada, salad, rice (I subbed fries), refried beans, chips and salsa, tortillas AND iced tea (refills included) all for $5.95!

And for those of you wondering, it did taste as good as it smelled.

I did discover a new Plucker's Wing bar opened 3 miles from me last Monday! Previously I had to drive almost 40 miles to one.

Last night's fare:

Chicken breasts in rosemary, garlic cream sauce with jasmine rice, haricot Verdi with roasted tomatoes & garlic, fresh from the oven Italian herb bread (okay bread mach8ine but still) to be followed by fresh strawberry cupcake.

Sounds amazing!

JP: For the record, any "tea" I have after 5PM is usually of the superannuated variety, but the stuff I have beforehand is brewed loose and under strict supervision. (That's what happens when you don't drink coffee.)

That chicken looks scary-good, though.
