Does anyone recognize this connector? It came with the used MP3 500 I recently purchased. It is on the left handlebar. I will open things up and try to trace it but hoped someone might recognize it. Appears to be 2-pin so I'm thinking power for something.

There is also a small led or light sensor on the right console. Very small clear bulb in a brass-colored housing. I have not seen it light-up. I'll post a picture of that next.

See if you can talk (or get the name, number) of the old owner. See if he has any of the old accessories around that you could buy for cheap. On the other hand if you bought it from a dealer they could have stripped it for accessories before you bought it.

Take a multimeter to the connection to see if it has power, key on/off. Also I'd be putting some dielectric grease in there to stop corrosion and maybe putting a cap on it (you can find them cheaply in the nut and bolt section of any homer depo, Loews etc).

My guess if there's no plug on the other handle bar it was for a gps, or some other accessory. Match a male plug to that and your good to go.

Cheers,
Tross

Owner that installed the mods has passed on. Although it may be possible to contact him I would rather not.

you need to go to your nearest psychic and contact the owner. While there they can tell you your future.

And try and find out about any new MP3's coming to the USA too.

Whatever it's for is probably sitting on a shelf in his garage.

That's a harness accessory socket, intended for a heated grips supply on the 500 and a GPS on the other models, ready for some Piaggio plug'n'play grips which I'm not certain they ever produced.

Psychic may have their own set of leads they can tap right into unit and tell you exactly what you need to know, including the meaning of life?

My 500 had the same socket under the middle of the handlebars - but it was one of the very first ones in the UK, and I know they made some changes thereafter.

On a serious note; Cars have one of these in their engine compartment for Tech's engine analysis/diagnostics computer, it may also be power supply source for GPS, what have you? I would see what kind of voltage you're getting out of it as Tross suggested in an earlier post?

I know I've seen it before and went digging. It's a power connector for a Tom Tom rider 2. Or at least it the same plug for my rider 2.

Tross does it again! It has 12 volts even with the key off. Extra set of leads coming straight off of the battery posts.

Tom Tom requires subscription yes? Depends, I use a site called GPS Underground, for my updates, Garmin/Tom Tom and everything else. So check them out and see if it's for you.

Piaggio had a OEM accessory gps system. It was the Tom Tom rider one installed by the dealer before or after you bought your scooter. The problem with Tom Tom rider series is that there was no contrast on the gps. So bright sunlight, you can't see the screen, not good. Made an ok car gps, so that's why you will see the plug on some second hand scooters. Double check with a multimeter but one wire is red and one's black so easy to cut and splice to a new accessory. Though be warned, small gage wire so no heated grips!!!
