have you done the valve adjustments at 12 k and 24k?
Sir - yes sir!
I found one of the exhaust valves had no clearance - I've been told this is a sigh of wear.
It does idle better now - but no change in gas mileage.
that is the piaggio recommendation on mileage for the checks. I have done mine at 8k and every 8k now. I have noted they do get tighter by a couple thou. so instead of prolonging to the 12k and risk even more tightening I will keep doing mine at 8k. I also adjust them now a loose.06mm knowing they tighten a bit.

I see nothing in this thread about worn belt and rollers/sliders, wouldn't this be a factor in performance/gas mileage?

Don't forget tire pressure. If you let it get low the gas mileage drops.

I've only got about 5200 miles on the bike, so the belt and rollers really should not be an issue at all.

And actually, my tires were getting low (checked and filled them before a long ride on Monday) and my gas mileage had not changed in any appreciable manner since they were last checked and filled to the desired level.

Only done 5 fill-ups so far. Best was the second tank at 53.65, worst was two tanks ago at 51.90; average 51.98.

MP3 400, 15 mile commute. Half city roads, half freeway; I tend to do 6200 - 6500 rpm on the freeway part, I have the comfort windshield and weigh 200 lbs.

Cheers!

Your higher rpms on the freeway is what is hurting your mpg. I run 65 mph on the freeway @5,500 rpm and get 60-65 mpg.

Yep! Well, and the large comfort windscreen... Laughing emoticon

I don't have too much choice on the freeway. That's what I have to do to keep up with the flow of traffic. Oh, and it's fun!

I was just posting to give the OP a frame of reference.

Cheers!

Mine's stock rollers and no fuzzy washer, and runs 6000 RPM @ 65MPH real speed on a level stretch. My mileage in that situation is BETTER than my street mileage, as my MPG went up by several MPG for the few weeks I had to do multiple freeway runs.
